So I am getting all four pulled out the first week of July. I am a bit afraid since their not knocking me out. I will only get numbed. Can anyone share what I should expect ?
 
I also need a root canal lol :(

My teeth hurt and I guess that is going to fix it. However, wisdom teeth must come out first. I really enjoyed all the help the assistant offered me because I could not understand one thing out of the dentist as he had a very heavy french accent.

Also about the wisdom teeth, he said that If I did not pull them out that in a few years they would start bothering me.
 
I currently have two wisdom teeth in the back of my mouth; both of which have broken through the gum nicely and are not putting any pressure on my other teeth.

Due of a past history, which is long and painful and involves about 5 botched/non-helpful dental surgeries, I have a great mistrust of the dental profession.

Unless the teeth become a major problem, as in always painful, then I will live with them as they are. I won't lie, as they continue to break through the gum, there is quite a bit of pain, but that comes and goes and doesn't last for more than a few hours.

If there's no pain, there's no reason to get them pulled. There are also risks of having them pulled, including the complete loss of sensitivity in that area of your mouth, if the surgery is done incorrectly.

So, just make sure it's something you actually need done.
 
I had all 4 of mine pulled a few years ago, the only difference was that they knocked me out. The experience was fine, no problems at all. I had the surgery on Friday and was back to work on Monday. And the drugs they prescribed after the operation were really great ;). Good luck to you, don't worry, things will / should be fine.
 
It's a bit surprising that a dentist is doing a removal of all four- and under a local anesthestic.

In the US, this would be done by an oral surgeon and you would be sedated for the procedure.
 
My upper wisdom teeth have not grown out , So I wonder if their just going to make an incision and yank em out

Thats essentially what happened to me, I had 1 broken through, 3 not, all impacted and starting to cause problems. I did have general anaesthetic though, incisions, pull out, sutures. Luckily I didnt really have any pain after surgery, and only very minimal swelling, I was getting completely sick of uber soft foods by the 4th day however.

I would enquire as to the general anaesthetic and his reasoning for not using it, dont worry so much about the potential nerve damage, the risk is present, but in most cases it is minimal, he should be able to give you some idea of the risk from the xrays.

One last thing, when you get home ICE both cheeks, early and often. ICE ICE ICE.
 
That horrible smell? That will be coming from you and not the dentist's hand.

It's a lot harder to supress pain once you start to feel it, so just take the pain killer he gives you in the prescribed intervals immediately without waiting for pain to kick in.

Don't worry about the wisdom teeth. You'll be fine. It's the root canal (if the tooth is infected) that will teach you to hate the dentist. :D
 
I had a 'fillin' yesterday and hated the pain when he drilled into the tooth so imagine having that done to four teeth.

and yes I will have a root canal after all this. He already told me that I needed it.

Im just shocked that I have all these problems since I have a really nice white smile. I brush and floss and do all that and still have to go trough all this crap.
 
I had three molars pulled out in two sessions, but this was quite a few years ago. It was later that the real wisdom teeth emerged.

They also did this under local anaesthetic. I think I had seven injections when they pulled two in the same session. That was because I could still feel stuff during the exaction.

Anyhow, after it, the site was packed with something, I don't know what, but there was also some gauze which I had to keep biting down on. There was a seemingly horrendous amount of blood afterwards, but I was told that it would take at least a day for it to really subside. They have me more padded gauze (with cotton wool in between) to change, and I had to swill my mouth out with salt water (just mix a teaspoon in a cup of warm boiled water until it dissolved). After all that biting down on the wound site, there was eventually a blood clot that filled the gaping hole, and the bleeding stopped.

You just have to be careful about eating over the next few days.
 
Don't worry about it. If the dentist thinks he can get them out in the chair under local, they can't be too badly impacted.

I had to be knocked out to have all four of mine taken out and that involved 48 hours in hospital. They had to chisel away at the bone for the lower ones and stitch the gums back together afterwards. Even that didn't hurt, just throbbed a bit for a couple of days.
 
I had 4 very impacted wisdom teeth removed years ago. I was under a general anesthesia - no way was I going to be awake for this. Then I had some percoset - a very heavy narcotic which made me stoned for a day. Then just tons and tons of ice packs to help the swelling go down. Also, watch out for dry socket - I had that - but they fixed it in a few seconds with a solution that was squirted on the incision area.
 
I had two pulled last year--under a general anesthestic. I was fine, it actually was very quickly done---I had a filling at the same time and it took forever and it was the more uncomfortable of the two procedures.

But to be truthful--I don't mind a little bit of pain now and again.
 
Well I survived :)

I just feel grossed because I cant spit anything. I was recommended to swallow everything. The pain has not kicked in yet ,and I hope it never does :)
 
^^don't hope... take pain killers before you feel anything, because once you do it will be harder to put down

Good luck buddy - and just remember - ICE PACKS!!!! And, unfortunately, yes, you will feel some pain later. Make sure you have the pain killers around.

Pay attention to this. Take the first dose pain meds as soon as you get the prescription filled. The local anesthesic is going to wear off quickly.
 
Ive been taking pills. There is little pain when I remove the gauge from my mouth. I hate all the bleeding that is occurring. Apart from that, I am starving but am scared to eat because of the wholes in my mouth. I am scared of getting dry socket.
