OK guys, the time has come in my life where I'm now cutting wisdom teeth. I've got to say that this is some pretty bad pain! I feel like I've been punched in both sides of my face. I don't have insurance, so I can't go to the dentist to have them removed or get pain meds. I've been eating ice cream and chewing ice for two days straight... any advice?

This fucking HURTS!!

(Having kidney stones felt better than this, IMO.)

If it hurts THAT much you probably should go to the dentist because you *need* them to be removed, or they will screw up your whole dentition/jaw. When my wisdom teeth surfaced I didn't feel a thing, nor did any of the people I know who did not need to get them removed. You should at least check with a dentist ..

I agree with Corny. Get a dentist to look at them and make sure they're coming in straight and don't need pulling out. If they do need to come out, doing nothing could damage your other teeth. If the dentist says they're fine, be a man and put up with a little discomfort! It'll soon pass. Take ibuprofen if you need something.

Your first step is to be seen by a dentist for xrays.

If you can afford to pay cash, then you can call the dentist's office and say that you don't have insurance but you're paying cash and they can give you an idea of what it will cost (and they may be willing to work with you on the cost).

If cost is an issue for you, you can look into being seen at the MUSC dental clinic.

There are teaching hospitals that will charge little, if anything.

Not only is the pain a problem, but depending on the angle they're coming in, it could damage the jawbone, or start cutting through other teeth.

My wisdom tooth came in at an odd angle, and due to the one above in the top set, it shattered the emerging one in the bottom set, so one side of the lower wisdome tooth broke off. It's best to see a dentist, othewise it will present with bigger problem to come.

When my wisdom teeth came up, the gums over them got sore - jeesus did it hurt.. I got so cranky about it that I jammed my finger into the puffy spot and it turned out to be a cyst - on both sides. I burst the fuckers with the handle end of my toothbrush and opened them up. The pus almost made me gag, but I cleaned out with warm water and salt and lo, there were perfect shiny white teeth underneath. At a funky angle, but otherwise okay.

26 years later, they've gone much more wonky and have started to fall in, but both my orthodonist (had braces at 25) and my current dentist say they're fine and the movement is normal.

If they really do hurt and it's lasting a long time, go to your dentist and have him open up the gums and get the tooth exposed, if at all possible.

Also, don't drink or eat sugary things for a little while afterwards - until the gums heal - as the bacteria in your mouth that feed on the sugar can cause infection.

I had 4 very impacted wisdom teeth and the needed to be pulled. It was screwing up all of my other teeth.
