Liberation Entertainment Ink Deal To Distribute 'Wolverine' For DVD And VOD

Liberation Entertainment continue to bolster its increasingly attractive portfolio of titles with the announcement today of a deal with First Serve Toonz for the acquisition of the DVD and VOD rights to a 26 part animated series based on the iconic Marvel characters Wolverine and the X-Men.

Liberation’s multi-tiered deal for one of Marvel’s most popular characters includes confirmation that the BBC has acquired the television rights for the UK.

Jay Boberg, CEO of Liberation Entertainment, said “we are very glad to be involved in this first class original series, and to be working in partnership with Marvel and First Serve Toonz.”

Spencer Pollard, MD of Liberation Entertainment said “Wolverine and the X-Men is a huge franchise and with the Wolverine movie planned for 2008, this should secure huge interest for our DVD releases. With the strong interest in the show from the leading broadcasters around the world, we can ensure that our TV sales team can work strategically with our UK and International DVD sales teams to maximise the returns for everyone

“Liberation is a young and aggressive company and we think they are the perfect team to sell Wolverine and X-Men around the world”, said Ed Borgerding, principal of First Serve Toonz. “The show is a perfect combination of great storytelling, action and fantastic characters. It looks to be a show that will run and run.”

W00t!

You want horrible animation ...check out the original series that aired on fox in the early 90's ....that was crappy animation.

Interesting, I'd probably watch it...but am I the only one here that never really liked Wolverine?

long live Anole and the background characters!

It was crappy animation but it was a classic. Nothing with x-men animation since holds to it. I was excited when they did all my fav stories from the past. They kept to the book. But I hate everything with the X-men comics since 2000. Once Scott started mind fucking emma I stopped buying the book and haven't bought since. Nothing ruined the comic book more than bringing Emma in. She didn't add to the book but took that special quality away from it. She's so Blair from the 'Facts of life".And don't get me started on "Warsong"! What a badly drawn shitty story piece of shit! I don't think I've hated any comic character more. She ruined my love for Marvel. I don't even buy Marvel anymore.

See I disagree... I think the addition of Emma was a good thing for the book... the book itself was starting to lose the internal dynamic... everyone on the team had become too comfortable with one another ...even the Wolverine/Cyclops thing had become less confrontational...

Getting back to the cartoon... while they did stay with some of the original comics storylines... I felt they had destroyed the actual essence of the characters themselves... there was a certain spark missing from them that didn't transfer over from the comics to the cartoon... the characters were there but they had no soul...

and I stand behind my feeling that the animation sucked... you had sentinels (and other characters for that matter) that constantly changed size... nothing was static...

I feel that Warsong was frougt with carelessness and sloppiness. True characterization didn't even hold well, so I don't see that being because Emma's a "bad character", I see that as being because Greg Pak dropped the ball...a lot.

And I agree that bringing Emma in revitalized the book. Like I've said before, while Jean and Scott were 'the' couple, they were doomed to nothingness. Jean is way beyond Scott's perceptions, Jean always wanted to try someone more in her league like Logan, and Scott needed someone he could be on par with. Jean was a deus ex machina, you could always count on her pulling it out in then end and there isn't a single character who doesn't like her and who wouldn't side with her or who could ever stand up to her.

All that results in is stagnation on the team and in the dynamic. Emma isn't trusted, she's a former villain turned ally turned team member. She's a human being with a jaded past which motivates her actions but she does love Scott and she loves her students and she's unafraid to make hard decisions. Her tragic flaw is that she's been through too much to just drop it and be as trusting as other characters need her to be.

So I'm glad that she's such a major character now and I'm interested in seeing what they do with her and the other characters in this show.

I'm interested to see what powers she will get? Both? Too good to be truth...Damn, she's really funny when she has her TP (like how she messed people's brain) but giving her diamond form is beyond cool.

I won't say anything about the animation until I actually see them animated (IE moving)...Anyone can say a picture looks bad, but who knows.

I'll watch it anyway despite the God-awful title...

I agree with Pushover, I never actually interested in the character of Wolverine, it's just too boring, I don't mind Emma so much, I like her in the animation and by the way, is that girl wearing the x-men suit is Shadow cat?? I can't tell, since each series makes her look different

Probably Kitty. It looks like they're going with current costumes and Kitty's wearing the old yellow and blues again in all the titles.

I actually would like to see her in green again like in the old old days

Whenever I see a brown-haired girl sportin' the standard yellow & blue X-uniform, I assume its Kitty by default

Love her power & I'm so glad they're bring in Emma this time around. I love my mutants, but having the same ol' characters thrown at you each time there's a cartoon kinda beats the purpose of one of if not the most diverse Marvel team

But the more X-related stuff around the better

I just hope they make it a bit more serious and less bubblegum pop.

I agree...has anyone seen the Ultimate Avengers films?

I think it would cool to see something in the style of that. The characters were obviously more mature & so was the action/violence...and Nick Fury said "damn" twice lol

It would be nice to see Wolverine actually use his claws to stab/slice someone other than robots

I love Emma Frost. I think it was a great idea to include someone who was extremely intelligent but had an very different method of approaching goals. I also like the fact that she's not like the most powerful mutant alive (I loved Jean Grey too, but then she got all super powerful and became less interesting) but has 2 conflicting powers that she uses with great skill.

Umm the show is poorly titled. I hate Wolverine and I have to wonder when they're going to stop milking the bastard for all he's worth. It looks like Evolution-type animation except weirder. I hope the dialogue and plots are good.
