For me, it wasn't women questioning my gay sexuality, as it was the guys questioning my straight sexuality.
I'm a preacher's kid. I'm the first male in five generations of my family's tree branch that didn't go into "The Church". I was raised behind the altar, and fully expected to follow in the general family's footsteps.
I was eagerly doing my "duty", as a Social Paragon, dating the cheerleaders, and all of the Hot girls in school. I was the popular one, while also being a member of the National Honor Society. I had the brains, and the chicks.
Thing was, there were a very few, Trusted, guys in the mix. All on the "down low", which maybe served to make them even hotter!
I really did Care about "my" girls. I was also incredibly fascinated with sex, of all kinds. My teens, and twenties, perfectly coincided with the 60s and 70s. "Free Love", "Flower Power", and all that "hippie" stuff.
Though I never kept a formal count, I figure I had sex with a couple dozen girls, and almost married 5, or 6, of them.
However, the few guys that I also got physically close to, tended to appeal to me more.
When I hit 30, I decided to go with guys. They tended to be more Fun without all the drama.
Chicks are Kewl. Dudes are far more intense without all the strings attached.
