Women's MMA is a growing sport but the biggest MMA company in North America, the UFC, is completely against having a women's division. According to their owner, Dana White, women's MMA would not be a draw because most fans don't want to see women fight each other.

Elite XC, a company that competes with the UFC has showcased women's fights and they've been popular with the fans.

Do you think women's MMA is too risky for television? Will it ever happen in the UFC? Or is MMA in general just a disgusting, blood thirst sport and should be removed from television period?

I personally find the fact that there's a "sport" that consists of beating the shit out of someone else, disgusting. I don't see what's enjoyable about watching that. Men or women.

Do you feel the same way about boxing, kick boxing, wrestling, etc? Or do you just feel that way about MMA because it's more violent? Just curious.

I love MMA, and personally, I have no problem watching women duke it out. If they have the fortitude to tough it out, and can put on a good show, hell, I say go for it.

Plus when they look like this it's just icing on the cake. :p

She's sweet. :) I'm surprised how hot some of the fighters are.

To tell you the truth...I only watch it when I hear Gina Carrano is fighting...mostly cause I'm a fan of hers from American Gladiators....but her fights have been the best out of the other fights on the shows she's on. I know the past two Saturday Night FIghts on CBS that she has been on...Kimbo Slice has also fought and he was the big draw for everyone...but he sucks and is so boring to watch...at least Gina wins and lasts more then 14 seconds...lol

I like women's MMA because they're taken seriously as athletes and aren't treated like a side show attraction like over here....

But to be quite honest, I do cringe a little if I see a woman get seriously hurt, like in the face. I guess I am just a little bit sexist but I don't really feel that way if it was a man getting hurt.

I'm not a fan of the sport, but I don't see whats wrong with women doing it. I would have a problem if women fought men, but if its girl on girl than thats ok with me.

Gina Carano was the 1st female mma fighter i've seen. 1st thing that popped in my head, was why someone who looks like that, would want to get potentially get her face pounded in. i actually LOVE good old fashioned catfights, but it is kinda hard seeing women get down like that in the ring though.

What do you mean Elite folded? :(

I think it's fine. I think it would be sexist to afford male fighters the opporunity to do this, but not female. I'm all for them duking it out if they wanna. ;D

I can't see a reason to restrict two women wanting to fight each other.

I saw some MMA on TV a while ago, and when the winner sat on top of the other guy, beating the brains out of him while the commentators just laughed, I couldn't help feeling disgusted. There is a tiny part of me that finds the sport fascinating, but mostly I find it revolting.

I think MMA federations like UFC are still trying to get the stigma or males fighting over with the public. It wasn't that long ago when the sport was banned in many states and it was a PPV only type show. Women being featured regularly might make it harder for them to get it more accepted and mainstream so I guess Dana White has a point.

I still can't believe Elite went out of business. Did they get bought out by another company?

i thought i heard something about UFC buying them out, but could be wrong.

MMA is only interesting to me in the context of a story. (ie Ultimate Fighter reality show)
As for womens MMA, God no! I dont want to see that shit. Women should be delicate LOL.

^

Very wrong, actually. :)

They folded under their own undoing and bad business practices - link here.

That's horrible news. I wonder what this is going to mean for all those fighters who worked for Elite XC. I hate that UFC is the most dominant company. Aside from WEC, what other companies are there.

I also don't know if WEC even has a women's division but I could be wrong.

Well there's Strikeforce and Affliction.

The WEC doesn't have a women's Division. Just to clarify.

Gina Carono's matches have been huge draws in Elite XC so that may persuade Dana White to start a women's division in UFC somewhere in the future but I doubt it. He's very much against women's MMA.

that's just a shocker right there too. i knew he could be a prick, but never would've imagined him to be sexist too
