I agree with Riverrick. If employees are saying things like "the faggot wants something" there are deeper problems going on there that have nothing to do with discrimination against homosexuals, and neither showing them what a good worker you are, nor showing them what quality people homosexuals are by coming out to them, will make any difference.

Allowing employees to verbally abuse others, in any form, is a sign of very poor management of interpersonal relationships and bad teambuilding.

This is simply a bad place to work. You can't put lipstick on a pig, nor make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Unfortunately, with needing money for school and such a short time period left (two months) I think you're stuck between a rock and hard place. It might take another month to find a good place to work, then you're left with only a month to make any money for school.

But I think you owe it to yourself to get out of there. The more time you spend in a poisonous environment like that, the more it'll affect you. Don't bother with trying to reform them. Take care of your own future as best you can, even if it means delaying the start of school by a semester or two.

Come out. Don't be ashamed. Don't over-state your case. Just be who you are, and don't take any shit.

If a manager is allowing harrassment, just pull him aside, tell him that you don't expect anyone to like you but you expect people to respect you and allow you to do your job with a little dignity.

When someone calls you a faggot, you look at them with that look you give stupid people and say "um... and...?" It'll make them realize that not only do they look like assholes but that you're not going to let them make you feel bad.

Meet it head on, but always treat everyone with respect.

OH.. and make friends with the girls... girls love having gay friends, and guys will be nice to you to get to the girls. It's a secret I picked up along the way.

Well, at 18 years old I would hope they would give you more guidance than that.

Maybe you need to start by coming out to your parents. Then you can apprise them of the full scope of your problem. I know it isn't easy to come out but it might be better to start at home and have some allies than to start elsewhere.

What do I do when someone calls me a faggot? I totally lose it as much as I can and blast them. They deserve it and need to learn a lesson. It pisses me off that people think that its ok to use epithets on gay people.

You're 18, you decide if you're going to the army, not your parents. Have you told them you would get a new job before leaving the current one? I understand the want to do everything with the help of mom and dad, but if you already have to work, to pay for school, you might want to buck up and be prepared to take everything on your shoulders at once. It's not easy working full time, going to school full time and paying for all of it yourself, BUT you can do it. Thousands of people do every year. If your parents are unwilling to compromise with you, without you revealing your sexuality, then you may need to do it on your own. Sometimes it feels better when you do something on your own without the help of siblings or friends. I hope everything works out well for you.

Well, My mother worked full-time during college (she used to work 50 hour weeks and still go to college) she got an MBA Summa Cum Laude in 2 years and said she did it fine there's no reason I can't, and I have to live with them during college, I can barely afford to go with all my scholarships as is and adding 6k for dorm is going to ruin me. As for sueing, my dad was considering this with one of my jobs but he decided that he didn't want me to be known from that point on who sued and in addition like I said, in Michigan this harrassment is completely legal.
