Worst cover songs

the store i work in plays some awful covers of Beatles songs. as far as i'm concerned, no one should cover Black Bird.

any cover of Umbrella is pretty bad.

I've always thought Nilsson's cover of Badfinger's "Without You" was brilliant.

I've always thought Mariah Carey's cover of Nilsson's cover of Badfinger's "Without You" was an excuse to show that she could hit those high notes. Which, let's face it, we kinda already knew. (See also her cover of "Lovin' You".)

Oddly, the one Mariah Carey cover that I think she actually did well was her Def Leppard cover. Not as good as the original, mind you, but it actually sounded like she was thinking about the song, not just trying to show off the high notes. Of course, by that point, she couldn't hit the high notes.

This one--:grrr:, I loved Berlin's version---this one suck the big one.

Hmmm. Off the top of my head...

Ramones- Street Fighting Man.

Green Day- Working Class Hero

Ben Harper- Strawberry Fields Forever

Pet Shop Boys- Always On My Mind

All crap.

Lesson: Don't cover classics that were perfected the first time around. Even if you're The Ramones.

I would suck David Bowies cock if he wanted it, but i cant stand his cover of Lets spend the night together by the rolling stones....

awww man...i loved Mariah's "Without You". lol...actually didn't know it was a cover when it 1st came out, until i happened to hear the original on a different station one day. i like her cover of Brenda Starr's "I Still Believe", but it WAS another case of her showing off the pipes. i prefer Brenda's version.

anybody like The Bangles' cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter"? personally i love it, but i've only heard the original once or twice i think.

I liked the Pet Shop Boys "Always on My Mind". They at least took it in a new direction.

The Bangles took a rather substandard Simon & Garfunkel song and did a good job with it. I still don't think the song's worth much, though.

Here is one of my favorite songs, "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus. It's about a high school nerd in love with the popular prep girl who doesn't even know he exists and is dating a jock. I guess you could call it a nerd anthem.

I haven't heard that song in so long... thanks for dredging it up, always great to hear the oldies.

New Found Glorys Rendition of madonnas "Crazy For You" absolutely dreadful

They also done a cover of "Kiss Me" and "Time after Time" although not necessarily crappy, no where near the quality of the origionals, or in the case of Time after Time, the better covers.(BTW, who actually made the original, I've googled it, but found nothing.)

Also, in america if you have been watching tv at all in the last two weeks you have probably seen the JC Penny commerical to the tune of Don't You (Forget about me) by Simple Minds that was redone in a more teen rock way, it just killed the essence of that song

JC Penny should be sued for even thinking about abusing the oldies(songs and movies) for their crappy clothes.

>>>BTW, who actually made the original, I've googled it, but found nothing.

Don't know the remakes, but I'm assuming it's Cyndi Lauper?

You're killing me here, man. :)

personally i think the Bangles KILLED on this track...but that's just me.
definately towards the top of my playlist.

Lex

I was thinking that too.

There have been PLENTY of covers of it:
Soasin, Matchbox 20, Quietdrive, Avril Lavigne(she does a decent version of it acoustic), Rockapella, INOJ(with a Lil Jon remix), Uncle Kraker, Jewel, Dave Matthews Band, Lil Mo, Blaque, the list goes on.

People love to cover that song, lol.

>>>I was thinking that too.

Easy way to check - Cyndi Lauper co-wrote her "Time After Time". Just check the publishing credits. If her name's on it, it's that song. :)

Hmmm....Yahoo had/has some sort of artist cover series, and it got kinda ugly...Mandy Moore covered "Umbrella" and it was scary, soft-rock, workplace radio stuff...Switchfoot covered "Crazy in Love" and it just made me uncomfortable LOL

Rihanna's live rendition of Hero. THAT's the worst cover you'll prolly ever listen to:

ARGH! MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!!! ](*,)
