Why was my post deleted? I didn't bash anybody or any point of view, I only defended the history of Christianity, and gay Christians... I don't get it.

Traditional Jewish belief at the time was that homosexual behavior was a sin, so Jesus probably believed this as well. Although, we have no saying from him specifically on this topic.

Jesus was inclusive (which got him a great deal of flack from the religious elite of his time) while our church (temporal) has move toward being exclusive. No one was rejected by the big guy IF one recognized one's own unworthiness & tried to act in a loving manner. However,... can you say CREEPY?

The restrictions on homosexuality according to traditional Jewish belief have more to do with the fact the Levite's were a small clan and needed every man, woman and child to grow. They prohibited same-sex relationships because they needed more population.

As for the website and billboards, they are put up by Jesus MCC, part of the denomination UFMCC (www.mccchurch.org). They have had great response.

Yes, I understand this. But as Judaism grew into a more formal religion, the religious Jews expanded this to include all homosexual behavior.

People will use verses to say things only apply in that context, and they're not wrong because that's what it was written for. But all religions take their sacred texts and expand on them. Whether this is right or not, is a matter of opinion.

Traditional Jewish belief of the time would have precluded his having any contact with a dead body, picking grain on the Sabbath or allowing a woman who had a "discharge" to touch him--- but the Gospels tell us he ignored those beliefs.

buzzj, that is a good point. Jesus also pointed out, that people get hung up on the letter of the law, but we should be more concerned about the spirit of the law. I hope that makes sense, I need to take a break from the computer.

True, those were traditional Jewish beliefs at the time, and the canonical Gospels do depict Jesus breaking these laws. But does that mean we can assume he also disagreed with the teaching that homosexual behavior was a sin, especially when he said nothing about it, as far as we know?

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I know Jesus is an important figure in the world to many, and that's fine. But I think we should stick with what we know to try to understand Jesus. It's common that people attribute their own viewpoints to Jesus.
