  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Would you change your nationality?

That's an interesting question.
With Brexit looming some people are considering applying for dual Irish/British nationality to allow themselves to continue to take advantage of the lack of restrictions travelling within Europe

Change no my partner and I are American And British having lived and worked for 15 years in London. We would love to give up our American Citizenship. But it costs a lot a real lot and you still have to do american Taxes for another 10 years.

Which is pretty much like saying that one is Welsh and British, or Yankee and Belter.

Damn Feds, they are clever!

I'm not that attached to my passport in reality. It wouldn't really change the fact I was born, raised and spent most of life stuck on the island! Might have to marry an EU citizen just to keep options open going forward.

I wish that I was able to also have Dutch citizenship.

I can't see brexit making much difference to travel in Europe. Norway and Switzerland aren't in the EU, but travel there is pretty straightforward. There would be more red tape if I wanted to go to the USA.

^ Less travelling, more living and working. I agree for the most part though.

I would consider Australian, British, Canadian or Irish.

Having a dual citizenship would be a delight. Too bad my country enforces the law of only having one, so in case I want to apply new citizenship elsewhere, I have to drop my country. Having a Germany or British wouldn't be shabby.

No i pretty much lucked out.

This a proud Scot. Although i do hold dual nationality, an Australian passport, thanks to my first love and Australia recognising same sex long term relationships.

I had to take prove to the Consul of how long we had been together, although it helped that he had dual British/Australian nationality.

I understand that the fact you would have to go through the non-EU channels is what is causing anxiety.I am not so sure it willmake a lot of difference. Maybe it is just the EU stirring up trouble again

If it didn't cost a zillion dollar to do so, you mean? Yes. I'd be Australian.
