For me, it depends on what's on the record. If it's minor offenses like disturbing the peace or even shoplifting I'd overlook it.

Anything more severe, DUIs and up, will cause me to worry.

Discuss.

Depends on this crime, minor stuff is fine even dui's is ok for me, BUT not that it's ok to do cus it's not. I would hope he learn what not to do there on after. But more serious stuff i would be much more aware and carefull.

Like if he embezzled, stole, robbed he would be now where near my money.

As far as dating somebody --- No. I would never date anybody with a felony, or any kind of robbery on their record. Ad Also stop talking to anybody who I'd personally find to have done such a thing (even if it went unpunished). I would also have very hard time (if at all) trusting them.

Why don't we move on and ask here has a criminal record and what did they do?

I will be open.
I have never been arrested in my life. Only once I have been restrained in cuffs, because some idiot called police and said that I pointed a gun from my car at them (while parked at my friends driveway). They came got us out, cuffed us, searched the car, found nothing and left. I still think that the cops made up the anonymous phone call part. Anyhow I kept acting like a baby, and kept telling them that my shoulder is cramping because of the cuffs. So they took them off and put them back on two times.

The only way I would stay/start a relationship with a cheater would be by accepting that they are going to cheat on me sooner or later. If I am okay with that I'd proceed

my first priority is the question can this dude find and/or hold down a decent job.

Then we'll discuss what he did...

i think there is very little i cant overlook, if the circumstances are right (what, when, why, ...) the more serious the crime, the redder the flag of course.

rape and murder i could never overlook, obviously. drug related stuff i wouldnt mind, as long as hes not an addict, and isnt involved with really heavy stuff (crack, heroine). violence related stuff would make me veeeeery cautious. etc.

can someone explane me what is a criminal record....

in belgium you need to get a jail sentence for 6 moths to get one.
jails are full so you would never have to go but this is the limit of the paper work.

and still....

if you are good for 4 years you loose it..... ( not murder or rape....but still)
i'm talking about small stuff everybody does.....

DUI is a crime of stupidity, not of evil people.

I don't think I would care, but as barnbuddy said, if he puts his cards over the table it's a good sign :)

I rarely check criminal histories before going out on a date. Is he hot? That's far more important, no?

Would I date a guy with a criminal past? Convicted or not, it would depend on the degree to which his atonement was successful.

I'm not sure how to start this reply. I'll just dive in! (ohhh now there's an expression! lol).

A while back (10 years ago) I met someone with a criminal record. He was convicted for driving whilst using a mobile phone. I agree he should have known better, as it's dangerous... and can kill.

Little did I know that he hid a guilty secret from me... but boy, I sure found out later on in our relationship. A year later, we were sitting in my living room watching a film on tv (was a James Bond film)... and for no reason at all, he started cussing me, and getting angry. I had done nothing wrong at all.

The only thing I remembered was waking up in hospital and this was three months later. I was told he had taken my baseball bat, and beat me to near death with it. Oh.. the guilty secret came out in court.. he had prior convictions for GBH and one for ABH.

Although I am now with a partner once more (and this relationship has its problems, believe me) I am a near nervous wreck still. I hardly ever go out as I cant face it.

It's me reckoning that if my current relationship ever ends, I intend never to have another partner. There seems to be no genuine caring one out there :(
