Would you date a guy who's a loner?

I would say it depends on why he has no close friends. I agree it's a red flag, and you can't necessarily just chalk it up to "he's a loner". Maybe he pushes people away. Maybe he is too selfish and people get put off and leave. Maybe he needs such a shallow contact with people that he is incapable of building meaningful relationships.

I am just listing a couple of possibilities that would be super detrimental to a relationship. It could be none of those of course.
