Never heard that word before, looked it up, looks like a catapult.

Different processes (tension vs counterweight), but trebuchets are more accurate since they can be adjusted very easily without having to move the machine.

The only thing I remember 'trebuchet' from is Age of Empires II, one of the best strategy games I ever played. They cost a lot in resources to build, but then you'd just deploy them far outside a castle or town and let them do their work.

Vulnerable to an enemy counter-attack once deployed of course, but then you bring plenty of soldiers and especially cavalry in front of them to fight off and defend them.
