Would you desire "total recall"? Would you want to remember being potty trained? My first recollections start at about 3, but I have only a few things that I can remember from 1955.

No,
"total recall" meant you are a robot.
You can remember everything therefore you cannot lie anything.

My first thought is yes, I would like total recall. After a minute I started to wonder if I would want to remember bad experiences though.

I can recall nonsense stuff from years ago, tv shows, songs etc, my early childhood i only remember snippets from, probably for the best.

When I was 9 months old my crib was close enough to see out a large window, watching traffic go by. At 6 years old I asked my mother about the Trams that i used to see out the window described them the colors etc. Sh laughed and said you were 8 months old when they stopped them and 5 month or more later when all was removed wires etc.

I have memories dating back to being in a crib at two years of age....but I am delighted that most days, I am not flooded with automatic recall of every single moment of my life.

No, total recall does not mean you are a robot, although robots do tend to have total recall as long as their memory banks don't get corrupted. Total recall simply means remembering everything, you can still be human.

And just because you can remember everything does not mean you can't lie. Even now, when people don't remember everything they can still lie about the things they do remember. Its the things they don't remember that they (technically) can't lie about. After all if you can't remember, can you really be intending to deceive with whatever you say? OK, maybe, or you could just be stating what you believe is the truth.

When I was in my early teens my grandfather always said he would have loved to be 14 again, but only with the wisdom of 40.

I'm beginning to understand what he meant.

I heard of some guy that claimed to remember being potty trained.

For me, my mind is like a steel trap. A rusty steel trap.

One of the greatest gifts to humanity is the ability to forget. Total Recall is the first step to emotional breakdown.

But please ignore the above as I share my oldest intact memory.

Believe it or not, I have a direct memory of watching the Emmy Awards from 1959 at age 2.
This clip is from the "American Masters" series featuring Robin Williams:

No. Remembering the good times would be great; but remembering every detail of the bad times would be a nightmare.

God I could have used this today...but most of the time I already have to work to tamp down the unpleasant memories.
