I'd probably still rather fly to a faraway place than to take a bus or drive. The USA is a large country, and I can get somewhere in less than a day by flying, whereas it would take a week on a bus.

Both are completely and utterly awful. I would pay good money not to have to go to either. If forced to choose, I'd look at which was likely to be shorter and go to that.
