I was just on Manhunt and I had a request to take a survey. So, I figured why not.

The survey was about taking PrEP, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, which is suppose to reduce the risk of getting HIV when having condomless anal sex. It's effectiveness is not 100% however. Here is some additional information.

Here is the link to the survey, Online Buddies.

So, would you take a pill if it reduced your risk of getting HIV from condomless anal sex?

No, PreEP is not a vitamin but a serious anti-viral drug whose long term side effects are only starting to be seen in HIV patients that are living on these meds. And I wouldn't like playing Russian Roulette with a prevention pill, cause some sucka will end up with an incurable disease for life. Besides, I don't understand the logic in men who don't want to catch HIV bit don't think about Hepatitis C which is not such a rare STD infection and is just as serious and deadly a disease. Don't need to discuss other STDs as people think those are like catching a flu.

Are you talking about Truvada? Sure go ahead it only cost about $1,400 + a month ( about 17 K a yr) in the USA. Insurance companies that include drugs on a plan don't always include it in their formulary or approve it for people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. So real good luck hitting them up in advance of a diagnosed medical problem because you could be, (COULD be exposed) in the future. More then likely that will get United Healthcare and the rest a good belly laugh when a person hits them up for payment, meaning have wallet or checkbook in hand and be ready for "claim denied".
Guess it depends on your coverage or the size of your on hand assets? The missing link of course is these are powerful drugs with long term effects on the liver and kidney, amongst other changes to the body.
From the public healthcare stand point its a good shot for people conducting behavior that exposing them regardless if the person taking them develops renal failure, heart disease, or non-stop trots because its a given it does reduce viral load and chances of spreading the disease to others. So the benefit to the many out weighs the needs of the few.

lets ask a Medic1 to give us a professional opinion on the matter. :p

Condoms have a higher success rate than the pill.

Condoms have less side effects than the pill.

Condoms cost less than the pill.

And, it says the pill should be used, not as an alternate to the condom, but in addition to it.

So I personally don't see the point.

I wouldn't take the pill, since a pill is not a substitute for being safe. Then again, I'm waiting on someone that I'm committed to and can really trust before I attempt in, condom or not. Get tested together before and go from there. Old fashioned, but I want to be married before going that far.

No...I would not take any pill connected to HIV ...I have really good reasons that I will keep to myself.
