Wow, Dick Cheney gets a heart transplant

Wow I might add that before this thread devolves into death threats against Cheney that I hope he does well and that it is amazing what we can do medically IF you can afford it.

He has gotten noticeably thinner these past 3 years. His heart condition has obviously taken a pretty severe toll on him.

I wish him well.

Hopefully the hospital and doctor bills won't overwhelm him or cause his family to file bankruptcy and lose their home. The anti-rejection medications are expensive so I hope he doesn't have to decide between paying the electric bill, eating three meals a day or buying the immunosuppressive medications.

Organ donation is a selfless, most unselfish and unbelievably generous gift a person can give. It gives the gift of life to someone. When the family is told their loved one is dead, they give the okay for the organs to be harvested for transplantation.

Become an organ donor!

THIS is why I want to (try to) have your cowboy babies.

Actually, I'm surprised he took the donation. He was really pretty evasive as to what he was going to do about his condition when I last heard him talk about it. I thought he'd just cash it in when the time came.

I hope he does well in his recovery. Organ donation is a truly wonderful thing that you can do pretty easily. Just let somebody know that you want to do it. When I check out, they can take whatever is still working and give it to somebody who needs it.

Footage of the procedure has been released:

Cheney looks well in his horned head-dress. The donor... not so much. :-)

But seriously, may he recover well. And, as others have mentioned, tell your loved ones if you want to be an organ donor!

When I told a friend Cheney had a heart transplant their response was ....... "Who do you think they had killed for him, or did he shoot the donor himself?"

:rotflmao:

:didisay:

like all Congressional Crooks, I assume Cheney has lifetime free health care.

Wait..... you mean they have free government-run health care but are denying everyone else from getting it?

What about the death panels?

I'm unsympathetic considering there's a long wait list for people seeking a heart donor. At Dick Cheney's age, he should have let someone younger and more deserving have it.

Just another example of his lack of morals, he is 71 and has lived his life, I am sure there are many much more deserving people on the waiting list.

I assume that age/health is taken into account on the priority list, but unfortunately, yes -- the elderly seem to be entitled to medical care too.

Do I understand you correctly? You think it is unfortunate that the elderly are entitled to medical care?

I'm laughing at the comments in some of the reports:

:rotflmao:

The happiest person in the history of the world must have been the surgeon who jabbed that scalpel and rib spreader into Cheney's chest. He must have laughed butt off.

News Flash...Rick Santorum showed up at the hospital hoping to receive the old heart so he can take it home to show his family.* He was escorted out by security after claiming he was on a mission from God.

Only evil lives forever.
 -Iron Maiden

Medical history will be made when -- for the first time -- a heart will reject the patient, and not the other way around..

If you were Dick Cheney wouldn't you so desperately cling to life knowing what awaits you in the afterlife?

I hope he pulls through too. He has the medical care that every American deserves. :D

Dick Cheney likes gay people now.

Last year there were 2,300 heart transplants, 332 of which were for people Cheney's age. The majority of the rest were aged 50-64. Recipients of donated organs are matched to their donors through a number of factors, none of which will be the same for every recipient.

In other words, there is a very, very high likelihood that if Cheney had not taken the heart, it would have gone to waste.

^ I disagree. Despite those numbers, none of them prove this particular heart would have "gone to waste" had Dick Cheney not taken it.
