^^ ya, he could have gotten more viewers by doing gay for pay or something like that. I wouldn't mind fucking his brains out either.

The biggest problem I have with this story is: Why are they charging the girlfriend with a crime? It was obviously an accidental death.

Because abject stupidity is chargeable and she could've said no. Well, said no yet again, she seems to have been horrifically nagged. While it was definitely accidental a gun has no other mechanical function but to shoot bullets. Which, on a linear train of thought, tend to kill people. I'm calling Darwin award for the guy though.

that needs to be a thing again.

and am i reading too deeply into this or is the author trying to turn this into some lowkey statement about minority teen pregnancy and absentee fathers?

You thought so to, huh. I got a bit of that vibe, yeah. Not necessarily from the article, I got more about minority teen pregnancy and stupid teen actions from that where the guy 'just happened' to not be white. When combined with the thread title, though, the absentee fathers springs right to the fore since the guy was Latino(?). But absentee fathers as a concept crosses all racial lines despite the racism involved when the concept is leveled at people o'color specifically.

Down on the ground absentee fathers has more than a little to do with "I have no responsibility for my genitalia/sperm!", I expect. I haven't noticed that a large percentage of women think that race is a deciding factor on who will actually 'stick around', tho there's undoubtably some racial bias involved.

i'm sure it's purely conicidental and incidental that the story involves a latino/hispanic father, but the thread title makes it abundantly clear that the topic isn't at all about this isolated incident but is rather a broader statement about.... i can't keep this up, i'm jiggin so hard right now my mind is on 8 million things

Oh, I doubt the race of the guy is coincidental. S'why I love the 'lil double-grave accents, so useful. People do stupid shit all the time. When reporting on it tho I noticed it generally falls into a pattern. For instance, if it were a white guy in the article you can pretty much bet that he'd be in a, ahem, 'low income' demographic and most likely rural, which in descriptive terms is (socially) usually code for 'fucking stupid'. Meanwhile, Middle-America is bent on describing their own stupidity as "...merely an accident no one could have possibly forseen..." I occasionally think they're surprised that they are, indeed, also intellectually responsible for the same occurrences but then I remember it's their own bloody fault for deluding themselves via a superiority complex.

Which are usually described as 'Above-all innocent young man hijinks gone wickedly awry", as if the end result wasn't given an excellent chance of happening no matter who did it.

Um... Who first injected race into this again?

Both you and the article's author, as you made the thread title about absentee fathers when the latino guy who was the topic (thus linking the two for no reason I can discern), and the article's author by writing the article. But you both did it in slightly different ways. There's no such thing as 'injecting' race where it weren't before; everyone already has some kind've social-construction formation of it. So the lack of a mention of racism in-particular (which isn't really possible when names themselves have racial connotations) or giving a description that contains it brings to the subconscious (or outright conscious) already-held bias.

I merely piggybacked off your thread title which combines with the subject o'the fuckin' stupid death being Latino and absentee fathers. Which the latter had fuck-all to do with the guy getting shot,
so why'd you add it?

Call me when there's a plethora of articles describing middle class white guys who, shockingly, kill himself via stupidity while having everyone in the article acknowledging that stupidity.

This reminds me of my deceased mother in law, she could find something that she knew was there, even if it wasn't.
No one eluded to or mentioned race, this is getting old.

Haha, it's true I injected absentee fathers. Never mentioned race, though. The fact that you automatically made the connection should say something about what you really think beneath all that political correctness.

guy looks like a bf of mine----what a waste of a hot guy:cry: with an ugly gf no less----he was hot enough to be somebody he just needed a sugar daddy:p

How old are you, again? I'm sure you're old enough to have noticed 'absentee father' does not translate culturally here to 'dead father'. Deadbeat, maybe, but not corpse. The concept has a quite a bit of 'current events' via racist 'They're -------, they don't usually hang around', though.

Which your title made fairly clear. Note that wasn't the article's title, but your own personal spin on it. The article, in fact, said nothing about deadbeat dads or 'absentee fathers' - you brought that up yourself. If you were under the impression it was subtle enough to prick the back of the brain but not the conscous mind you were mistaken.

You might wanna look up the long and not-varied history of latinos, mexicans, black people et al having a deadbeat parent stereotype thrust on 'em whenever skin color is known. I don't see that happening to white guys due to skin color - but I do notice the description becomes available once their pasty ass skitters away. Bit of a difference there when referring to a very much not-white dead guy that stayed and someone still managing to insinuate that his race is comprised of absentee fathers, no? Or are people here claiming they missed his name and his photo in an article that centered the guy and his family?

Or are you gonna pretend you were unaware of that too? I mean, I know ya'll ain't straight per-se but you're also not stupid. Pretending you're so is more of an inconvenience to you than it is to me - which isn't to say that it doesn't add up in the long run

Latino's and Mexican's don't have a deadbeat parent stereotype. Quite the opposite.

Having said that -- I do believe that the thread title easily could have been better stated.

I also stand by my earlier statement. I don't want to see her going to jail. It serves NO purpose IMO.

I think that I need to become a FULL TIME juror for the sake of my community.

:):):)

Actually, I was referring to his being dumb as a rock, because in my experience absentee dads are dumb as rocks.

But thanks for letting us know what you really think.

I didn't see race in this either. Of course I live such a sheltered life that I rarely see racism or the affect of it. I saw it as how our relationships have changed and the article was about how technology has changed our relationships and our lives. It was unfortunate. I wish that they had practiced more without a body behind the book and maybe they would have realized it wasn't foolproof.
