Ok first of all, if you start gently and you find it painful then just stop, Nobody should be forcing you to do it. If your brain and mind is not into it then it won't happen.
All the old wives tales of people having to wear nappies or always leaking are just throwbacks to homophobic ideas about gay sex, The anus is a muscle and if you encourage it to open up gently then it will stretch and shut back up like any trained muscle.
