Just got an IM from a friend with a link to this profile on gay.com.
This guy (sexy steve or something) had made a fake profile with some of my pictures, and even had like 90 friends on that profile.

As much as I'm flattered that someone has used my pics, im also scared of where the pics might end up, and what they are used for.

And I know, the internet is open and these sort of things happen. The only real option is not to post anything.

WoW! That really sucks. You're not the first JUBber to have this happen. I don't believe I've ever seen a photo of you that could, if misused, harm you but still .... it must be disturbing to realize someone has "used" you.

Can you ask the guy who stole them if you can go on the dates for him?

Being far deeper in the "average" category, I figure if anyone can get a date or laid by stealing my photos, they're welcome to them. I heard one of my "artier" pictures showed up on another website - not sure if it was a "this is my work" thing or not, but I was actually flattered that my work was considered worthy of passing off as somebody else's.

I've had my pictures posted elsewhere from JUB, which is why I'm all Corny about it when I post anything about myself here

But that sucks Code. I would say take it as a compliment (a la Lex's post) but it is creepy nonetheless.

I don't think it's cowardly for anyone to avoid exposing themselves to needless risk. There's nothing wrong with being pragmatic when circumstances call for it.

Besides, who would you rather have for a boyfriend (and possible husband): a sensible young man--or a tart who makes a public spectacle of himself?

Do what feels best to you. No need to hide your face on here. But I'd think twice about posting nudes. I'd rather chat with someone that has the balls to post their face and not hide who they are.

This is why I tell people to watermark their pics.

Not only with the username and a copyright symbol (latter for the really antisocial idiots who argue that everything's public domain on the internet), but also with the name or URL of the website where you upload them.

Or if you sent them privately to a stranger, add something like "exclusively for private use by ______". So in case your pics get used elsewhere, you can at least trace back where they leaked. Also, not just a small watermark in a corner, but half-transparent over your whole face and body in big letters!

Another problem is that JUB entraps us to post our pics, just like Youtube/Google, Facebook, Myspace and others... and then there are the creepy perverts who take pics of you in public and don't ask you for permission to publish them on the internet.

Well I have this sill little dream of writing the next "Great American Novel" and having a bunch of nudes up on a Gay Forum might hinder my chances at winning the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature.
