I've read only a few early reviews from critics who have seen it already and so far none have been negative (even Fox News thought it was good). It would be pretty difficult to watch it, I'm sure. Oliver Stone is a great director and I like most of his movies. The United 93 movie did pretty okay, maybe this one won't have as much controversy as we all think it will.
 
I think it's a little too soon after 9/11 for this movie. The wounds are still very fresh -- after all, we are largely immersed in a longstanding war in Iraq and possibly an indefinite occupation of that country in no small part because of 9/11. Bush used the threat of terrorism in order to invade Iray, and as you may have read in other posts, there is compelling evidence to suggest that 9/11 was purposefully engineered in order to justify our invasion of Iraq. I suspect that the WTC movie is just going to present a sappy, sugar-coated account of what happened that day.

My husband and I were just talking about this last night, and we agreed that what would be really interesting to see instead of a fictionalized human drama with 9/11 as the backdrop is a historical recounting of the actual facts, in much the same way that Oliver Stone did "JFK." Of course, as with that movie, the version of 9/11 that NEEDS to be told will have to wait for 25-30 years, after all the major players are dead and gone and can no longer quell the truth.
 
I know why people might be upset by watching the film with the event so fresh in our minds, but I wouldn't say that the film would be "controversial." The subject matter is so delicate that I'm sure Oliver Stone has gone out of his way to make sure that the film is an accurate (albeit heartbreaking) reconstruction of how those firefighters went into the WTC that terrible morning. But I don't understand what he could put in the film to offend people.
 
I want to see it. i think it looks good.. But i doubt that I will go see it in the theaters
 
The fact of the matter is that September 11 is not a special disaster. It is not exempt from all of the things that happen to all major disasters. There will be MANY movies made about it, some of them will probably be fictionalized. Look how many movies have been made about the Titanic disaster or Pearl Harbor. No one has any hang-ups about them. We can't hold September 11 to different standards just because it happened in our lifetimes. A movie was going to be made eventually, so why not now?

There have been bigger disasters with higher death tolls that have been made into very successful and distinguished movies. Let's move on already.
 
No thanks. It looks too over-dramatic for me. Not to mention that Nicholas Cage looks ridiculous with that mustache.
 
And of course the horny sluts of JUB will be here the minute movie lets out, talking about: "The guy who played so and so that fell out the window when the towers collapsed is sooooooo HAWT!"

And then get an mega attitude when you talk about how it's inappropriate.
 
I refuse to see it, I cannot endorse people making a profit off of that tragedy, I didnt see flight 93 either.

Did you see Titanic? Pearl Harbor? There's no difference between this and any other movie about real-life disasters.

This country needs to stop being so uptight about September 11. It was a horrible tragedy, but it was just one in a long line of horrible tragedies in world history with many, many more to follow. It can't be some be-all-end-all event that so strictly defines our country. Letting it have such a lasting effect on us goes against everything our country supposedly stands for. We're not supposed to dwell on tragedies, we're supposed to move past them and overcome their consequences. American's aren't supposed to be so cowardly.

And let's not forget Civil War movies, World War I & II movies, a movie and sitcom based on the Korean War, Vietnam war movies...

Tragedy is tragedy, death is death, violence is violence, sorrow is sorrow. There aren't any time limits or check lists to go through when it comes to determing when it's "OK" to talk about something.

Notice I said I cannot stand people making profit off of "that" I didnt say civil war, I didnt say titanic, I didnt say anything else, I said "that' and it was referring to the original question.. It was something I lived through, so I hold it more highly. I never lived through vietnam, but my dad did, and he fought in it, he refuses to see anything relating to it. There are just somethings that touch certain people, you might not be one of them, and tha'ts okay because you have your own opinion of the situation. You have the right to see it if you want, but I am choosing not to because I dont want to see them profit off of a horrible thing I witnessed.

The events you speak of happened decades ago with few to remember them but the very elderly. 9/11? It happened less five years ago. It's still affecting us.

It's just an attempt to cash money on the tragedy. They've been working on this for years. I wouldn't be surprised if the first thing that popped into the Hollywood exec's mind when the attacks happened was : "Jesus! This would make great blockbuster summer movie! Call Oliver Stone to make script!"
 
The first Titanic movie came out in 1913, one year after the disaster. That's just the way it works. If something can become a movie, it WILL become a movie as soon as possible. I think everyone needs to get over it.

And it bombed and was lambasted.

The 1997 Titanic wasn't because not only was it good movie but noone was alive to remember nor was anyone particularly affected.

It's not something to be taken lightly.

Take this way. Your mother was raped and tortured by a serial killer. A movie company reads the news and decides to make a cheap horror movie about it for the summer. How would you feel?
 
I hate reading a old thread . . . a 16 year old thread . . . and not knowing that.

I was going to ask "what is WTC movie?" I guessed that it might have been about 9/11.

I think Ive seen and re-seen every documentary that was about 9/11.

I wasnt really into the WTC movie
 
Oliver Stone's WTC movie wasn't very good. It's been pretty much forgotten.

Paul Greengrass' United 93, however, was difficult to sit through and it left me very shaken.
