If congress seats this man (an emotional partisan) , nominated by this president (an incompetent ruler), our nation is doomed. That we have sunken this low in such a short time makes me wonder who we are.
 
Well the FBI report is in, so everyone hold on. I suspect the Dems are going to change their angle of attack. Maybe Havanaugh got caught blowing a camel? HIs attitude during the hearing? Maybe he's a cross dresser into watersports from a Russian hooker? Whoops, that one's already been used.

A woman comes forth at great sacrifice and risk with a credible story about being sexually attacked by a drunken preppy who is now nominated for the Supreme Court. She provides forthright testimony about her ordeal in front of 50 million people. The ex-preppy responds with rants and raves and his belief that the Left is doing a hit job on him because Hillary lost. States he will make a great Supreme Court judge. That's all he's got. Now his Yale room mate states the ex-preppy lied ot Congress under oath.

Ask yourself this: Dr. Ford has nothing to gain and a lot to lose in testifying. Judge Kavanaugh has his shot at the Supreme Court on the line. Each is 100% sure of their version. There is no alternate truth. Who do you think would lie about it?

And now the polls are starting to tilt away from Democrats again...because of those old white Republican men who WANT to put a perjury-prone and probable former sexual predator onto the Supreme Court are becoming more and more Trumpefied.

Priests, Bill Cosby, etc. are fair game (with zero tolerance even if it had been only ONE victim involved), but this guy gets a pass with a totally bogus FBI report.

Former Justice John Paul Stevens says Kavanaugh should not serve on Supreme Court: Palm Beach Post [CNN]
Stevens said Kavanaugh's performance during his testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee changed his mind about Kavanaugh's suitability for the court, according to the report. He added the nominee lacks the temperament for the position, the Post reported.

"At that time, I thought (Kavanaugh) had the qualifications for the Supreme Court should he be selected," Stevens said, according to the Post, during an event in front of a small crowd in Boca Raton, Florida.

"I've changed my views for reasons that have no relationship to his intellectual ability. ... I feel his performance in the hearings ultimately changed my mind."

Post #209 says it all. Lying about your present and lying about your past and acting like a spoiled teenager while insulting the people doing your job interview would get any of us kicked out of the interview. In this modern world, it gets you a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS.

Perhaps this whole experience is the last sign before the apocalypse.

He's probably going onto the court. If so, it's also probably time to find a Democrat to run against Sen Collins.
 
If SCOTUS appointments go beyond the ideological bent of nominees to baldly partisan political warriors, the SC will become a kangaroo court.

It will mean the end of the rule of law in the US.

The court will be an executing arm of the White House and Congress.
 
So the GOP is apparently nervous that they don't actually have the 50 votes needed to confirm Kavanaugh...and Kavanaugh is pitching in the WSJ this morning, admitting that he fucked up last Thursday in his snarling, politically charged hysterical tirade.

Although let's be clear. Collins and Flake are in the bag. Manchin deserves to be drawn and quartered if he votes for him and Murkowski is likely to follow the party line because she knows that to not submit to men is against the GOP Old Testament.

The ship sailed on that a while back. It started when the Federal Court system became a campaign issue that political candidates run on. It has worsened as special interest money began putting together "candidate lists" for the Courts; the race is on to buy their candidates a seat on the Federal Bench (not just the SCOTUS) through groups like the Federalist Society.

It has reached the point where it's no longer the President with "advice and consent" of the Senate. The candidate list comes from the donors through their "think tanks".

We are where we are because ultra-rich people the Koch Brothers paid millions of dollars to the Federalist Society and the Judicial Crisis Network working with people like Mrs Clarence Thomas to get their guys (and it's almost always guys) on the Courts. Add to this that we have groups of citizens whose myopic view of law means that having their way on LGBT rights, abortion, labor laws and equal rights is more important than having a healthy judiciary.

Since Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell changed the rules of the Senate to lower the required vote count from 60 to 51, there's no requirement to nominate moderate judges with broad appeal.

The Democrats and the Left aren't innocent in this game, either. They're just lagging behind because instead of focusing on court-packing like the Republicans have, they've put their money into getting cases before the Courts that further their agenda- think voting rights, school integration, gender equality, gay marriage, etc. Because these groups can't get justice in State Legislatures and the US Congress, they use the Courts.

The system is designed to put the power of the people in the Congress. The Federal Court system was never designed to be another legislative branch. The whole system is broken and it's tied to special interest money and a Congress that stopped functioning as a legislative body years ago.
 
Lisa Murkowski was the only one of the group of 4 to oppose the bringing forth of the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the full Senate. Susan Collins did but will announce her ultimate vote on confirming Brett Kavanaugh at 3pm today.
