wuh oh... Kavanaugh is a #metoo

I'm waiting on buyers' remorse from everybody who sat at home on election day with their arms folded across their chests cuz they didn't get Bernie. And now we get to pay for it for the rest of Kavanaugh's sorry life. But woah, at least we didn't have to deal with those emails amIright?

Girl, please. Stop this nonsense already. While some Berners and even those Never Trumpers among the Republicans chose to stay home (thus less votes for BOTH candidates), many still went to vote. There are more Berners who voted for Hillary than those PUMAs who voted for Pres. Obama back in 2008.

Two surveys estimate that 12 percent of Sanders voters voted for Trump. A third survey suggests it was 6 percent.
...
Another useful comparison is to 2008, when the question was whether Clinton supporters would vote for Barack Obama or John McCain (R-Ariz.) Based on data from the 2008 Cooperative Campaign Analysis Project, a YouGov survey that also interviewed respondents multiple times during the campaign, 24 percent of people who supported Clinton in the primary as of March 2008 then reported voting for McCain in the general election.

An analysis of a different 2008 survey by the political scientists Michael Henderson, Sunshine Hillygus and Trevor Thompson produced a similar estimate: 25 percent. (Unsurprisingly, Clinton voters who supported McCain were more likely to have negative views of African Americans, relative to those who supported Obama.)

Thus, the 6 percent or 12 percent of Sanders supporters who may have supported Trump does not look especially large in comparison with these other examples.

I put the fault here on Manchin and the Senate Democratic Leadership who did not put enough pressure on him. Have Manchin voted no, the Republicans will be scrambling to get 50 votes since Montana's Daines will be attending his daughter's wedding (even with Collins, it will still be 49). The Republicans may even postpone the confirmation giving the FBI more time to investigate. The pressure for Collins would have also been greater given that she will have no bipartisan cover and who knows what more will the FBI discover that will put more burden on the Republicans.

BREAKING: Christine Blasey Ford has no further plans to pursue her sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, according to her attorneys - ABC
Well so much for it all being about justice.

That's not how it works. And considering the death threats she received I think it's pretty obnoxious to even use this as some sort of "gotcha" moment, though we've grown accustomed to those cheap parlor tricks.

And still, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place......

Maybe because, after she had the courage to come out nationally in one of the most viral circumstances possible, the entire Republican Party paid absolutely no attention that there might actually be something there, and voted that belligerence and bullying and prejudice (both socially, and in the legal meaning of the word) are entirely OK and dandy, because [an orange guy who shall not be named]?

Murkowski (who was originally elected to the Senate in the rarest way possible, by write-in vote) was the only Repuke who had any sense in this.

She knows that if she pursues it farther, SHE WILL BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT THE ENTIRE WHILE...and, in the end, NONE of it will matter, because he will be pardoned. After all, there's guaranteed to be a case that will allow the president to pardon STATE crimes as well, and Kavanaugh is the fifth yes vote.

The way this country is going, Iran might be a refuge by 2030.

Here's something to chew on. Mitch McConnell indicated this morning that should there be a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020, of course the Republicans would put through any nominee sent by Trump. No Merrick Garland regrets here, no sirree! So brazen, so typical. His thing is that there shouldn't be politicization of the process in Presidential election years... in his mind is only valid if the party in power differs from the party of the president. Complete hypocrisy but what can you expect from gutless bastards in the leadership of the GOP?

That's not how the Criminal Justice system works. The State decides whether to pursue criminal charges. And Maryland has no statute of limitations for sex crimes.
The state decides whether to pursue criminal charges only after a complaint has been filed, no? She didn't file a complaint ever, not then, not now. Why not? She had no problem dragging him through the muck, i say it's her turn because she lied.

The complaint comes from law enforcement (although I suppose one could wait until a corpse decided to pursue murder charges  ).

Recall that the FBI said they didn't interview Ford and Kavanaugh because their sworn statements to Congress were enough.

Not that there's a shortage of women with a story to tell about Kavanaugh. Ford was just the only person that Congress felt enough pressure to call in for testimony. Guys who do these things don't just do it to one woman.

As a postscript to this mess, the weak chinned weasel Kentucky Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mc Connell was on the news shows on Sunday where he essentially said that if there is a Supreme Court vacancy in 2020(and if the Republicans still have a majority) that they would hold hearings and pass through anyone Trump puts up for nomination. When he and the GOP made it so clear that because the 2016 election was coming up(and this while there was still over 8 months before election day and Garland could have been seated by the end of April) that the fair thing was to wait until after the election to give the people a chance to have the biggest say. No hearings, no confirmation of one of the best, most respected federal judges. Someone clearly far less ideologically anchored to the left than the picks of the new president, Donald Trump, elected in one of the most contentious, divisive Presidential elections ever... Neil Gorsuch and now the infamous Brett Kavanaugh.

Mc Connell uses his twisted interpretation of judicial history to say that since 1888, no appointment in a Presidential election year where the president and the Senate were of opposing parties had ever occurred (though in early 1988, the Democratic Party majority passed moderate conservative Anthony Kennedy after two other nominations by Ronald Reagan failed... Robert Bork and Doug Ginsberg)and he seems to think that when Senate and President are of the same party(preferably his)during a presidential election year, it's just hunky dory. Imagine if a Democrat made that assessment, there would be howls of outrage beyond belief from the GOP. One of the first things that Mc Connell pledged once Republicans got control of the Senate was to make President Obama a one term president. Talk about obstructionism... and it was the GOP strategy of blocking lower court appointments of Obama that unfortunately had to lead to the wave of simple majorities for lower court appointments by the Democrats that was complicated by this use of the infamous "nuclear option" for the Supreme Court, egged on by our unstable, erratic narcissist in chief, Donald Trump.. They call the Dems obstructionist? That trait is in their very DNA... hypocrites and bastards.

Watch McConnell slip into white guy entitlement mode when he gets corrected on his fantasy historical talking points:

This little temper tantrum was very much like what we saw from Kavanaugh and Graham. I kept waiting for him to say, "Do you know who I am? How dare you question my authoritah!".

And he didn't even get to the 2020 possibility where he later indicated the GOP could well conduct hearings and vote in a nominee should a vacancy arise in 2020. With the Biden thing, didn't Biden soon afterwards say that if President Bush would consult with the Democrats and put up a more moderate nominee were that to happen(and the whole scenario turned out just to be hypothetical) the Senate would absolutely consider the case for nomination and possible seating?

His perspective was shaky from the start, but absolutely crumbles to dust when he is willing(and probably damn eager) to put up another conservative nominee from the Federalist Society assembly line of right wing judges right smack in an election year, without concern the people might vote in someone who wants a different kind of direction in November. Hypocritical bastard is being too kind. Term limit these entitled asshats… even from the Dem side. Three terms, 18 years to get things done. This is supposedly public service, not entrenched aristocracy.

They love to quote things that Biden said because a) he was in charge of the committee for a long time and b) Biden loves to talk, so there's a rich fount of quotes from him. Biden was in charge of the committee back in the 1990s when the committee had few extremists and lunatics on it. They took their job seriously and the candidates sent over from the White House weren't coming from donor's lists and from donor-funded think tanks.

And it took 60 votes to get them through the Senate for confirmation.

If Mitch wants to go back to the way things were when Biden was in charge, sign me up. But we're going to do the full meal deal, not the McConnell buffet version.

And you're right, he often gets quoted out of context- they never quote what Hatch said that Biden was responding to, etc.

In the past, I've been opposed to term limits. I changed my mind after some of the nonsense that went on during the Obama Administration. If we term limit the Executive Branch, we should do the same for the Legislative. Let the Judicial Branch be the adults in the room.

McConnell and his funders have been working 40+ years to get control of both Houses and the Executive so that they could pack the Courts. Democrats need to wake up.

Did Trump apologise to Kavanaugh for you for all the pain and suffering he and his family have been put through? I don't think Trump apologised on behalf of all of the people in the room let alone the entire country.

Republicans play chess. The Democrats play checkers.

And Maher absolutely nailed it. It was why I was like Cassandra through the 2016 election...trying to get the Bernie Bros. and the Never Hillary tantrum throwers to understand that this election was only ever really about the judiciary....because it is the judiciary that could effectively help give the Republicans perpetual control of the federal government...even when the majority will not support the party.

It's interesting how much of the "outlandish" things that Hillary said during the campaign proved to be true: that a "President Trump" could name 3-4 justices to SCOTUS, that it was about the Federal Courts and tax cuts for the rich, that Trump was unfit for the job, etc.

But I'm not sure even she would have guessed that things would be as bad as they are or that the Congress would be as dysfunctional and impotent as it has become.

The whole Supreme Court nominating process is shockingly partisan. I know it is stating the obvious, but the fact that Mr. Kavanaugh's tantrum, threats and outbursts was bolstered by Rebublican members and basically given a pass by the Democrats should horrify every American. . To me this is shocking to my very soul. In common language, WHO THE FUCK ARE WE AND WHAT HAVE WE BECOME? The highest court in the land should be one of justice. Where there is no middle ground, there is no justice. Pardon the venting. I am dumbfounded.
I will be shuttling citizens to the polls on election day and I will be their advocate if needed. I must do something, or I will drown.

I would agree with will except in that certainly the Democrats didn't give a pass to Kavanaugh's very venting, poor temperament response or that of the Republicans... they just didn't have the numbers to overcome this. Manchin stays with the Democrats on this one, Pence gets to be the deciding vote. Until Democrats control the Senate, we're not stopping any more nominees. Especially since I'm sure the Federalist Society will try to make sure that Trump would choose someone without a party background next time. Maybe a conservative woman.

NBC news reports dozens of people who said they had info about Kavanaugh contacted the FBI field offices but agents had not been permitted to talk to any of them. Former classmates were not allowed to share their stories with the FBI.

If this were all orchestrated by dems trying to seat a dem justice the right would be ready to burn the white house down and the conspiracy videos alone would upend youtube's servers.

"Why didn't da libruls want to talk to his classmates?"

"Why was the investigation so narrow?"

"They know he's guilty that's why they're covering for him."

Apparently even sexual assault isn't sacred in American politics, it's a tool for people to further their own agendas. This. Is. Disgusting.
