"X" Close & "-" Min. won't work

Nothing, any box or window with the - X in the top right corner won't work. To close them I have to do the "file' drop down "exit." This just started today

This sounds like some glitch with Vista. Try Googling the question and see if you get any answers. Good luck!

Maybe try booting Vista into Safe Mode (F8 when starting your PC) and see if it persists there. The graphic driver update was a good idea. Also, this page talks about the problem happening with Google's Chrome browser, but the suggestion to disable Aero and see what happens might be a good one. Maybe it's related to Aero's transparency somehow.

Also see this thread.

By the way, a co-worker's system that I helped him out with a week ago had a nasty DNS-redirecting virus that Symantec AV 2009, Spybot Search & Destroy and AD-Aware all missed, even with current definitions. Turns out Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware detected and fixed it great, and it has a quick or full scan. You might give that a shot in case one of your DLL's was altered or something.

try press alt and then click 'X' again.

if no, ctrl alt and del then click 'X'

if no, do safe mode

Glad that you could fix this weird problem. But now you need to look for what started it.
If you are not using a pirated version of vista (cracked evaluation copy) get your system checked, this very much sounds like some malware. How did you narrow it down to this file by the way?

In that thread they are also talking about a cracked windows ;) But if it came with your computer it SHOULD be legit.
Maybe just run malware bytes anti malware .. just in case - it's free.
