for the record i was patted down the last time i flew. i was randomly picked out by roving tsa agents and didn't think anything of it. well, other than my male agent wasn't very good looking.

i don't really have an issue with being x-rayed either. at least someone's gonna see me naked in all my glory! lol..

But you only need to see the record profits airlines are making after charging for baggage now to see they got it down.

Airlines don't charge for baggage to increase profits. They charge for baggage to keep their base ticket price low, and therefore on the front page of Expedia's default search. This enables them to compete at all.

If you want to blame someone for the unbundling of baggage and food charges, blame Expedia and the other ticket aggregators.

So if people stop flying, raise the prices.

Personally, I'd prefer if flights cost 3 times what they do now.

There would be fewer big huge families with screaming kids, annoying game boys, there would be fewer class trips with shouting hormonal teens...

Back in the 50s, families went on road trips in campers, they'd drive across the country. Airlines were a luxury. I think Americans have been pampered enough and it's time for them to stop thinking that the whole world needs to revolve around them.

So, you prefer long-distance mobility to be reserved for the elite. You do realize that this increases the problem that jobs can be moved, but labor is much less mobile. This contributes to the "race to the bottom" in job rules in the world economy. The more difficult it is for people of modest means to travel within the United States, the more likely it is we'll see that within the US.

I don't think that's what you want.

Hmmm... how does one become a TSA agent again?

Well, you don't HAVE to be a complete moron who can only follow rules written down in a book by having the book open in front of you; you don't HAVE to be a fascist martinet who likes to bully people and break their stuff just because you can get away with it; and you don't HAVE to be an outright thief; but all these things help a lot, and you probably need a subset of them to get the job.

You're out of luck, in other words.

X-ray me, pat me down, either way it's ok. I'm not shy about such things. I accept it as part of the world we live in today.

What we should really be worried about is the oppression of freedom that's occurring in the world, and especially in the USA.

I voted for the X-Ray thing simply because it was faster. However, a poster brought up a good point the the waves the X-ray emits can be harmful. Thus changing my decision into a pat down, but it would be very inconvenient for the people behind me

P.S.: I never been on a plane and hopefully never will.

huh?

I'm interested in hearing you go into this a bit further.

Not much to go into further. We are loosing our freedom at an alarming rate. We are going backwards in this country. This place is going to hell in a hand basket. I'd say we are about where communist Russia was in the early fifties. Just the tip of the iceberg, though. Wait until our economy collapses entirely, then you'll see the Biblical stuff only talked about in books, and movies. Sadly, we ARE going to see it in our lifetimes. I had hoped I'd have been long dead before it got to this point, but no such luck...

Supposedly the amount of radiation used in the scans is about the same as you get by flying for two hours at 30,000 feet. (Yes, everyone who flies has radiation exposure. That's how atmospheres work.)

On the other hand, you know who's telling us that? That's right, the TSA!

Neither.

oh fuck....radiation.....quick,

basements and closets everybody......

The sun is out today and the beaches are considered especially hazardous
what with all them ATMOSPHERIC radiation thingies bouncing and skipping
uncontrollably helter skelter, hither and yon betwixt the devil and the deep
blue sea...oh...and urinators were spotted in the showers by the pool too.

I am usually in a rush when I travel. So, I would opt for the x-ray. It takes far less time than a pat down.

I guess it really doesn't bother me if they want to scan or pat me down....as long as I can get to my flight on time and not get blown up by a nut case during the trip.

Damn it hack....

Your response is not germane to the irrelevant discourse.

Now dummy....is you wanting your goose

fried or plied?

I don't mind reasonable security measures - I've only flown once in the past 2 years.

but - - seriously - think about it -
what MALE is gonna stash anything that could BLOW UP in his crotch? really !!

if you wanna "check stuff" - then check the big Great Dane - cuz maybe, just maybe the owner took out his nuts and replaced them with C4.. are they x-raying the live-stock too?
