Hi everyone just thought I would start this topic and see where it takes us :)

Basically just want to get peoples honest opinion on this on what country they believe produces better music and artists. Either the USA or the UK?

Personally and I hate to say this as it is going to come across incredibly biased, in the music of today I do prefer British Artists, not so much the mainstream ones however the more quirky, underground artists that somehow dominate our charts and occasionally overseas.

Now yank artists are great, I love Lady GaGa as much as the next gay, however I get the impression a lot of American artists are sell outs, and very focused on a perfect image, this Hollywood lifestyle, like your rappers compared to ours are so different, yours are very bling if that's the word, whereas ours are more suited a booted.

This is just my opinion though, I want an on topic discussion about this from everyone's perspective :)

Here is a few videos as well on why I think British Artists win hands down.

Correct me if you think I am wrong, but we have some banging artists.

O no, why have the videos done that, just ruined the whole bloody thing, any suggestions how to fix that sorry? Such a Fail lol

Actually I don't care BUT in this case looks like neither came out ahead.

More later?

(PS don't know how to fix the problem. sorry.)

Well we will just pretend it says Yanks, I'm never sure if its an offensive term or not, you know since everyone is politically correct and what not.

And Elvin how dare you, Adele is wonderful, could listen to her all day, well not all day its quite depressing but definitely for a good hour.

I do love some American artists, the mainstream ones would defiantly have to be Beyonce, Rihanna and Maroon 5. I like your bands more than ours aswell tbh, UK bands are shite.

I listen to metal bands from both sides. I probably listen to a LOT more American bands, but that's because I've got easier access to it. Pure logistics. Or, laziness. Then again, I think I listen to a lot of Swedish bands too - the Gotemburg(sp?) sound of melo-death is awesome.

On the one hand, the English gave me Carcass and Iron Maiden.
On the other, the US of A gave me Arsis, Exhumed and Slayer.
And Canada gave me Fuck The Facts.

I don't really care for glam or grime, which is what i'm seeing this topic is boiling down to(Hollywood vs Underground).

Not at all MoufOfKhaos, thats just my taste in music, this is a discussion for everyone's taste.

And O its just here in the UK, Yank is just a term to describe anyone from the US.

Taste in music is very subjective based on your muscial influences while growing up, culture and your country of residence. But I'll play along.

Because I live in the US and have more access to a wide range of music available here, I would say US has better and wider range of artists then UK. There are a whole bunch smaller indie bands that might not be big enough for record companies to export their music to other countries. It's pure economics/capitalism/profitability. People living outside of US may not get to hear them. I'm sure the same could be said about UK record companies.

India produces the most music due to the Bollywood (musical) movies. If you ask the question "Yanks vs India - which country produces better artists?" Indians would say "Of course it's India (the second most populated country in the world)."

Even Simon Cowell said that the US has the best talent in the world.

As far as music I feel that in the 80's England had the best musical talent.

The thing with the US is its a much larger country so you have more to offer, its just the image that's portrayed in mainstream US music and mainstream UK music is so different. And I think I prefer the UK a lil bit more. I do love US music as well, if its any consolation some great films have came out of Hollywood :)

I love US music. More variety since there is lots of people over there. But if I have to choose, I'll go for UK.

But do understand that some Canadians make their debut in US.

I'm going to counter with this argument:

/thread

Spice girls defined a generation way better (in a hilarious, fierce way) than the hipster music probably you and only you listen to alone in Starbucks.

From America:

Paris Hilton's "album".

Kim Kardashian's "music".

Now you can end the thread.

I will go with Brit music. Talent trumps the unfortunate [STRIKE]range[/STRIKE] pain scale of "music" America shits out and guises it often under vocal talent.

There are some great American singers, I will admit that.

I like Americans for originality, but British for polish, professionalism, and musicality. By musicality I mean British productions on average use better (often trained) voices, MUCH better orchestration, and higher production values.

I think international music is usually better than music that only makes sense to one nation. And smaller nations usually have the advantage in making international music because it's so easy for large countries to focus on purely domestic tastes.

So for that reason, I'd pick UK as having the advantage in this poll, just with the proviso that Americans do make a lot of good music too, particularly when they lay down tunes with other talented musicians from around the world.

I like Music from both country's but I have to say the UK has produced much better talent than the U.S ever will e.g.
Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John,The Beatles the list goes on. Some of my fave Bands are American Guns N' Roses, Metallica e.t.c. however I HATE!!! U.S Pop Music it's absolutely dyer whoever gave Lady Ear Rape (Lady Ga Ga) a record deal should have there face pealed of and shot in the spine
