Yawn, yawn [Texas School Shooting]

Re: Yawn, yawn

In order to get any significant gun control laws passed, they're going to have to start shooting (white) kids while they're still in the womb.

Re: Yawn, yawn

^ As if that were not already happening. Nothing will change, as with everything else, in every nation, in every era, until the threat stops being perceived as something external: for as long as the good tots-and-pears Americans believe that the danger lies in Mexican people, black people, Muslim, gays, libs and any other sort of godless foreigners and monsters, nothing will EVER change, because guns will be kept being seen as self-defense bare necessities against the evil wild world out there, and even proud cultural symbols (you know, Christmas presents, father-and-son bonding...). When fair-haired, fair-eyed fat white Evangelical neighbors start becoming a serious threat to each other... and, obviously, after they are done with blaming anyone else for being a threat to each other...

Although I have always assumed this state of things will not chage until absolutely everything else changes: the gun wackos are totally right when they say that their society, nation, civilization, whatever, is based on that gun peddling and playing; the difference is that they value that fact positively, but that is already secondary, and the fact is that it will not change until the economic system, basically, and then the social and political that depends on it, is changed. It will be a consequence of the volteface that civilization suffers at the given moment, that itself being the final stop in a long-running trend.
Because you never EVER patch, mend, change things: there are multiple factors building up a society, and they usually need to be dissimilar in order to settle stronger and, for that same reason, factors that did not seem the most directly relevant in an issue end up being revealed (even when not [publicly] acknowledged) as the elements to be tackled.

So, in this case, like in basically anything, the economy is the basis: as much as political action and social "consciousness" are crucial, as long as you have an economic system fostering the gun industry, the efforts will be rather vain... that even beyond cases like the 2008 crisis giving final blows to terrorists groups, as was the case in Spain, with the serious disruption of the flow of money and materials to the terrorists cause. You need to find yourself (because, again, that is not something you purposely, at least not openly, legally, politically, much less from the activist side, you go seek and achieve) in a situation in which you have a good first blow, even rather tangentially, done to the monster you aspire to bring down. Then, as I started pointing out at the beginning, there must be already a social force to give a new thrust in the new direction you desire to give to the trend that has been disrupted in the way I have just mentioned. A fundamental social rule is that most people just follow and feed the trend set by a few, and what today seems powerful and everlasting, even as "natural", will be laughed as ridiculously eccentric the day after tomorrow.

In short, gun-crazy America will not end until everything else starts crumbling too (the good along with the evil) AND there is, THEN (not now YET), during the chaos, when it will be important to steer the situation in the right direction, because it could even come to become even worse if the gun-crazy profit from it to strengthen their party or, maybe even worse, create a new problem, and the ones are today pesting criminals under an apparently decent mainstream status, could become terrorist outsiders or, even worse, a mafia of terrorist outsiders with an apparently decent mainstream status: yes, you can say they are that already, but you can count yourself lucky that everything in America, particularly anything involving business, is too "irrationally exuberant" to be as perfectly defined and settled as that.

Re: Yawn, yawn

This shooting isnt like how other shootings begin . . .

1. He had an argument with his grandmother and he shot her.
2. He escaped in the truck which, it is not clear yet, whether he ended up by the school or it was pre-meditated?
3. He runs into the cops at the school and he over-powered them and gained access to the school. Which means will gun wielding officials stop shooters? In this case, no, it wont help.
4. He goes into a room and shoots everyone there and he isnt running around the school like it usually happens.
5. Cops break into where he is and kill him.

That's how the news is reporting how things happened.

I don't get that but who cares.

To me, it would mean that officials, gun-wielding or not, won't help in any case... Well, maybe with the exception of some case involving a five-year-old black girl having a peace-breaking tantrum, in serious need of being overpowered and handcuffed.

He's referring to the right's argument that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to station a good guy with a gun. Like like one a few months ago who ran away with his tail between his legs when some shooter opened fire.

That's probably the real reason they're there.

Oh, Cold Gun tactics.

Re: Yawn, yawn

Problem is the "good guy" concept: like when you let a psycho into a Blue Blood Fraternity, and he magically becomes a "good guy".

This.

I’m so mad at Americans that are allowing children to be killed while demanding rights for fetuses. I’m so lost over this.

Re: Yawn, yawn

Guns are just a tool, a deadly tool but a tool.

The cause of Mass Shootings is directly tied to the rise of Nationalism and Far Right rhetoric that started in the late 1990s. Someone opened the "negativity Pandora's box" and now young men feel they are Supremacist enough that if they feel things don't go right they can lash out at society for that in a deadly evil way. Time to admit the root cause of this violence and it isn't video games or music but the Increase in the Far Right Culture. There is a direct correlation to the increase in the Far Right Culture to the Increase in Mass Violence.

Which actually means: late 1990s, the Clinton era, when the 1950s dream (I can not find that cartoon in which the dad was secretly gay, the son had polio, the wife was a pill-addict, the girl could All that, apparently, was lost because of everything that Bill Gates represents.

That might help you understand why I always say that the actual 21st century will not start until around 2025.

Try living in Chicago You'll become desensitized to this crap in about 6 weeks!

Re: Yawn, yawn

Some gals (and gays) are talking about how "hot" the shooter is. Seen pics of him, no he is not, lol. But eh, to each their own.

Re: Yawn, yawn

LeicsDom, Peloso
You two need to get the fuck off this board and grow some compassion and a bit of a heart as well, and then come back. This isnt a joke for you to play with. Children and adults were killed.

You're both disgusting.

Who's joking? Neither of us as far as I can see

I will stop posting about these idiots when your American neighbours do something about the rampant gun culture they allow to proliferate

Re: Yawn, yawn

Our children are expendable.

Our Constitution is optional.

Our women's rights are conditional.

Our government is ineffectual.

In transactional analysis, the untenable, unsustainable quadrant is the one in which I'm not OK, and you're not OK. That is accurately described as the "suicide quadrant." When a teen, or an adult, hates himself, hates his life, and hates the world, then the probability of acting out in gross violence is greatly increased.

Oddly, gun control isn't going to be the solution, not that alone. If every good citizen in the country surrendered his guns tomorrow, there would still be a sea of black market guns accessible, especially to an angry person. Our society isn't willing to admit the problem is much broaders than simple access to guns. It is birthed from a series of social sins:

1) The "me" mentality that has dominated our society since the 1960's. It isn't on the right or the left, but all about. Our children are pampered, told self-fulfillment is paramount, that whatever your cause is, you are entitled to righteous indignation. If you are deprived, someone is to blame.

2) Our society celebrates violence. We do it through a multitude of entertainment venues -- cinema, online gaming, sports, and hypermilitarized patriotism. Our males in particular are taught that they are more admirable if they assert themselves at any cost.

3) Our wealth has bred arrogance. This has become a deadly vice, which feeds the sense of entitlement, which in turns curdles into a toxic stew when inequity or equity deprives a citizen and he wrongly blames society in general rather than is motivated to make the necessary changes in self and in institutions.

4) The omnipresence of guns and automatic weaponry has reaped its bloody harvest. Getting that cat back in the back is likely to be one of the flashpoints that will rive this nation into an actual civil war. It's sad to concede it, but we probably need to undergo such a catharsis, as no one side is going to walk away and cede the country to the other. If we are dragged into a 2nd bloody internal war, perhaps we'll finally see again the value of being one nation, instead of finding identity in distinction from our fellow citizens.

5) Our society has increasingly abandoned public education, with the middle and upper classes progressively withdrawing from fully integrated schools where rich and poor are one. Instead, we have isolated much of our classes, and left the poor to the public schools without the necessary support of the upper classes and their wealth and stabilty. As long as we grow further apart as a society, we have less and less in common, and less cohesion.

My heart is again broken for the victims. I still cry when the news covers the story. When I lived in Connecticut, Sandy Hook was only five miles from my home. From what I can see, this is indeed how a society ends. If we don't do what is necessary to turn it around, we deserve the mockery and scorn of the world.

This is horrible news to hear again this world is going down hill....
