The first single off the forthcoming new album, Odd Blodd, from Brooklyn Technicolor psych-poppers Yeasayer. "Ambling Alp" is as catchy as, if not more than, anything we heard off of their 2007 debut, All Hour Cymbals, driven by the group's exotic poly-rhythms, sparkling synths and guitars and, of course, soaring falsetto melodies. Includes remixes from DJ/Rupture and Memory Tapes, plus an instrumental version.

the remixes are also interesting:

I got their first disc a while ago along with lots of other music. Listened to it a few times, but it got lost in the shuffle. Pulled it out a couple of weeks ago and listened again. It really is excellent music and a stand-out record!

Look forward to this new release.

ODD BLOOD CD / LP (SC210, released: 02/09/10)

Since the release of their critically acclaimed 2007 debut All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer has been around the world and back again. While their first record was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. Inspired by musicians hell-bent on sonic experimentation as well as those more comfortable in a pop context, Yeasayer find their domain spanning across the musical spectrum. Studied, road worn, and eager to begin phase two, Yeasayer retreated to upstate New York to begin work on their new album titled ODD BLOOD.

ONG LIST:
The Children
Ambling Alp
Madder Red
I Remember
O.N.E.
Love Me Girl
Rome
Strange Reunions
Mondegreen
Grizelda

Looks like they're skipping Florida. What show are you planning to catch?

02-28 Koln, Germany - Luxor

I'll be ending my 6 month stay in madrid a little earlier than planned for that concert. (!)

Cool. Hope you post a review and pics after the show.(*8*)

review, no problem!

But don't encourage me to take pictures (or videos). When I'm at a great show I tend to be like: damn! that's awesome! I should take a picture to capture the moment.
So instead of just enjoying the concert I sometimes end up holding the camera up all the time. :croynan:

and now on to the video of One. I'm excited :)

yeasayer seems to have changed their sound a bit. The two new tracks both sound more lively than previous tracks in my opion, which is ok I guess. But they kept their instrumentals refreshing and unusual. I like.

They're here in New York for the next couple of nights but I won't be able to see them : ( . I hope to catch them when they come back in May (and I prefer Webster Hall to The Bowery anyway).

Love your avatar ohhi12, Sufjan Stevens is awesome (though I have mixed feelings about BQE).

Brooklyn-based rock act Yeasayer gained acclaim with its 2007 debut, "All Hour Cymbals," by achieving an impressive balance between world-influenced, experimental noise and disciplined, memorable pop-rock. For its sophomore effort, "Odd Blood," Yeasayer has maintained its standards of hybrid artistry. But like a number of its indie-rock contemporaries, the outfit has turned to synthesizers for soundscape inspiration. The single "Ambling Alp" is a dynamically percussive new wave self-respect anthem, while "I Remember" has all the melodic flourish and vocal loveliness of an early Erasure aria. Modified African rhythms visit in dance-friendly tracks "Madder Red" and "O.N.E.," and "Rome" is a steadily building strut with drum and vocal effects that reach out and grab from dark alleys. Between the folds of intricate sound on "Odd Blood" float Yeasayer members Anand Wilder's and Chris Keating's expressive vocal harmonies, giving this seemingly disparate, indefinable music a clear identity.-Evie Nag
