  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Yes, the site is fucked...

Perhaps, rather than throwing a hissy fit, an explanation as to why emptying the browser cache works, that way people will be more likely to remember. It is the difference between education and learning lines. If one understands then it is easier to remember.

BTW I know why it works but it's my day off :)

I am all fan of the "teach a man to fish" approach. However people are really not interested in that, I see that almost every day in our and other tech forums. Also this is not about "not remembering" but about people just not reading/listening when the answer is right there. In sbaraglia's case I told him what to try right there - and a few hours later there is a thread in the Site Help forum from him asking the same question again. Same answer .. guess what? It works. I am quite patient and used to "tech illiterate" people, but if people ignore advice or just don't bother to reading the very thread they are posting in, I don't see why I should remain calm.

Probably best walk away then. Big red shouty letters do no favours.

Mind you I can understand the temptation. I do it at work when I put the phone down on particularly stupid customers, it makes the people in the office laugh.

It's not stupidity. I can understand the confusion and the reason for asking, actually I appreciate when people point out stuff like that. It's the laziness that I hate ;)

Dear Corny,

Has the youtube embedding gone tits up again over the last couple of days, as I don't appear to be able to view any of the videos in IE or Firefox.

Confused of Peterborough.

I've been having some of that, too. If I click on the box but not on the arrow, I usually end up seeing it at YouTube, but I can't play them here.

^ Mmmmn. I don't seem to have a problem now! Either it was YouTube playing silly burgers or a blip following some updates I did.... lets see what tomorrow brings!!!

I bumped into a new one: after posting in a thread, I clicked on the little 2 on the bottom to go to the second page -- which is where I'd expected to be -- and it gave me the top of page one again.

Unfun.

When youtube is having maintenance the first thing they disable is embedding on other websites.

I assume there was a post deleted in the meantime ;)

Nope; there aren't even enough posts to take it to a page 2 -- and it's still doing it.

Link to the thread please.

Well, the YouTube thing is screwed. I can't post YouTube links any more; it automatically embeds them, and a lot of vids won't work that way!
Open your eyes :p

Just untick
Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links in text to be on).

Like all advanced posting options of course not available in quick reply ;)

I don't know that I've ever done a YouTube link except in quick reply. !oops!

Now, where is that to click?
