The nicest place in this country is Virginia.

Life in general! I think it takes more balls to say enough is enough and end it than it does go just keep in this petty pace til! the last syllable of recorded time, they say it gets better I say WHEN?!?

You know what I think is overrated?

Originality.

There has been so much bad art (performing as well as visual) and architecture done for the sake of trying to do something that's never been done before.

I'm not sure I can fault Taylor or Streep. Like many huge stars, there is always the problem of becoming a caricature of self. Kitty Carlisle's husband famously journaled in his diary that Marlon Brando had done that, and he was right.

Both Streep and Taylor have earned their accolades in truly top tier performances, easier to praise from early in their careers. Taylor appears to have been groomed in the tradition of the studio system, as a hot property. Her earliest roles in pieces like LIfe With Father were charming, if not demanding of great acting. Her later work like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof come across as overacted now, but they were widely praised then by critic and commoner alike.

Their business is so heavily dependent on self-promotion. I'll just say I'm thankful to have to movies they have made.

For my own nomination, I think culture heroes are overrated, whether Stonewall, BLM, veterans, Rachel Carson, Reagan, JFK, Jerry Falwell, Prince, Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Princess Diana, or Matthew Shephard. Too much is invested in celebrity causes as spearpoints, and the inevitable halo effect of any victim or martyr or exemplar. A complete depiction of them is usually impossible, and sacrifice at their idol is mandatory. Blasphemers are punished.
