You Know Your From Texas When

Fairly humid throughout the year trumps high humidity during summer?
Hahaha, if you call that hot then come to Texas, we can get up to 100 F and 100% Humidity in a day.

And it lasts longer than summer. It gets a little bit better after August, but the heat is still there. We usually get like two months of cold, although this year has been weird, it is still cold.

But where's the humidity coming from?

Aren't you guys are like in a desert or something?

Okay, having been born in Texas and lived here my entire life, let me just lay out the weather time-line for those who are lucky enough to live somewhere other than Texas.

Fall is generally the time period during the month of November. It is not unusual to be in shorts and t-shirts on Thanksgiving Day with all the windows open. We also do not enjoy the fall colors, everything just dies and turns brown within a matter of days.

Winter is from mid-December through mid February when the coldest day will usually be somewhere in the 30's for an over-night low and in the 50's for a day-time high.

Spring is typically from sometime towards the end of February to sometime in March.

Summer is usually from sometime in March through sometime in October. During this time, the temperature can go as high as 104 with a heat index of 109 and never falls below 90 at night. Factor in the humidity and don't be surprised if you are sweating at 7:30am. Also, since we have drought conditions every summer all summer long, no one is allowed to water their lawns more than once a week and no one is allowed to wash their cars.

As for other weather, it's not unusual to have sunny weather in the morning, tornado warnings by lunch time, damaging hail and high winds during afternoon rush hour traffic followed by severe thunderstorms in the evening and back to sunny skies by 8pm.

We never get snow, but we almost always get one day (just one) each winter where 1/8 inch of ice covers the bridges, at which time all the schools and most of the businesses will shut down for the day.

I think Texas has almost every type of landscape in the state. But Houston was built on swamp land, and we are close to the coast, sooooooo the humidity comes from those two sources.
