Over the top in the front. My grandfather was very particular about this point, to the degree of becoming quite enraged if someone inserted the roll backward; he was similarly pernickety about how one squeezed the toothpaste tube and in how many sections a towel must be folded. I find that I am also very particular on all these points. I seem to have inherited his nit-picking gene.

Ditto.
I'm a little OCD (okay -- a lot) and the toilet paper roll is one of the things I obsess over most. If it's hung the wrong way I find it nearly impossible to use the bathroom without fixing it first, LoL. I also have this obsessive habit of wiping down the toilet rim/seat after every visit to the bathroom.

Does not matter, your going to wipe your ass and clean shit with it and flush it, so who the hell cares which way it hangs.

It doesn't hang. I have a thingy that it is supposed to hang on but I just stuff it into it so that it sticks out and then you just pick it up and take whatever you want. I'm too lazy to make it hang.

Over the top. Otherwise the hanging tp would touch the bathroom wall, and I'm all "Howard-Hughes-the-germ-maniac" about that.

Since I've been asked the story, here's why I'm an UNDER person.
We had a dog that thought it was great fun to paw at the TP.
With it UNDER, the dog would just roll it around and around and it stayed rolled up.
Over, the dog would manage in about 12 seconds to have the entire roll pulled off.
See, there's a reason for everything.

I'd just like to present the following Plain Facts:
- Toilet paper must hang OVER the roll.
- Toilet paper that hangs under the roll gets stuck to the wall in a soggy mess if you take a shower in the bathroom.
- Toilet paper must hang over the roll.
- Households where a kitten roams loose may temporarily hang their paper the WRONG WAY to avoid having the kitten unfurl it all over the bathroom floor.
- Toilet paper must hang over the roll.
- Putting the TP on the counter is a wicked heresy that must be stamped out without pity by all righteous people. Also, it inevitably falls into the toilet eventually, and this is a sad, sad thing.
- Toilet paper must hang over the roll.
- Should you be in someone else's home, and discover that their toilet paper is hung (or should that be 'hanged'?) incorrectly, the most polite thing to do is to correct this oversight without comment. Mentioning it is extremely rude; reporting them to the Toilet Paper Inquisition is downright wicked.
