True.But the opening post isn't about making coffee because there's no one else there to do it and you really want your coffee.
The opening post isn't about being cordial with fellow employees.
The opening post isn't at all about volunteering or any other act of kindness.
It was about permanently hired employees asking an intern to do a menial task, not unlike the other menial tasks he was apparently doing all day, copying, and the like.
Unless they did it to demean him because he was gay, then it is perfectly normal behavior in companies where junior status is low until skills AND service are proven.
It remains a thread about an intern whining about being an intern. The vast majority of engineering interns we get annually don't work their 40 hours, and appear to be just getting a company name on a resume. It's by far the exception to find one who's actually expecting to work.
