Re: Which version is the best of A Christmas Carol?

^ Indeed, it's a classic for a reason.

Re: Which version is the best of A Christmas Carol?

I also like the 1951 film version, a favorite of mine for many years.

But here's a shout out to the 1984 version with George C. Scott.

Alistair Sim version. Hands Down.

Although there was this one....

Re: Which version is the best of A Christmas Carol?

Alistair Sim all the way. He is the epitome of Ebenezer Scrooge and his transition is amazing. Every scene is an 'in his face' moment and you can see the effect each one has on him. Still, he displays the internal battle going on inside him. He is beginning to realise that he is doomed to Marley's fate, but he can't convince himself that it's not too late to change. His 'I'm as light as a feather! I'm as giddy as a schoolboy!' ending is an absolute delight.

Of course, he is helped along considerably by a first-rate cast.

And speaking about the Muppet Christmas Carol, I would love to see Michael Caine doing a serious version. He, too, is an excellent Scrooge.

George C. Scott? Not so much.

At the end, when he's dancing about, watch closely when he looks into the mirror on the wall. Pay attention to the dark space just to the left of his head. Watch for the stagehand who pokes his head into view. (He does it twice.)
