So I am doing a major cleaning of the below stairs this winter....and part of the task includes cleaning a playroom we keep for nieces and nephews.....so I get to take a look at the toys I grew up with every once in a while. I still have every toy I ever owned (except my 1st teddy bear which just fell apart finally)...and today found a box of toy blocks (similar to Lego) that I had when I received when I was four and which became the core of my entire play world for a long time.

What was your favourite childhood toy and do you still have it with you?

Pics if you have them.

I had a Penguin toy with a round bottom. It had bells or something in it so when you pushed it they would jingle. I dont have it anymore but I had it for years as a child.

I can't remember i have any toys.
That is why i'm such a person ...

We didn't have much for toys when I was a kid. I remember a Teddy bear I used to have that my brothers threw onto the roof of the back shed and nobody would get it down for me. However, my favourite toy would have to be Lego blocks. This was back when there were no sets which would make only one thing. We also had lots of Tinker Toys and Lincoln logs. No Meccano, though.

Oooohhh...hard to pick a single favorite....

What were my favorite(s) that I played with everyday
...a tin litho farm with all the animals
...a tin litho gas station with the cars...
...my steel trucks...I had a sandbox full of them...mostly Buddy L trucks...
...my Rambler models...metal with moving parts...I got from my Uncle who had a dealership....
...my Fire Engine Pedal Car
...Casper cartoons with the projector

I don't have any of them but a really weird thing happened in 1989. I was in downtown Santa Cruz at the antique shops...1989...and OMG...there was my Rambler and some other dealer models from the 50s and 60s in mint condition with the moving parts...all metal..I wanted them sooooooo bad but I didn't have enough money on me and I refused to use credit at the time to buy anything that wasn't necessary...I had just bought a very large carved figural wood camel down the street and it was expensive and I was out of money ( still have it)...and there was this very large metal Disney Merry Go Round ride in San Francisco that you sit in with the seats across from each other with colorful 1930s/40sgraphics that was only 550.00 and I REALLY wanted that and had planned to get it the next week....

So...I asked the guy if I could put something down on them and come back within a month and get them...he agreed....

A couple days later...the big 1989 earthquake happened. The Santa Cruz shop was demolished...so was the shop in San Francisco where my merry go round ride was...it was an old brick five floor building...damn....

Haven't seen one since. I won't buy any of that stuff on the internet...I have to touch it and fall in love with it and that is part of the experience for me...the internet can't give me that. I have seen a few that were all scratched up but I want a mint condition one...

I collect alot of things....but I don't have any of the original stuff I had when I was young....

I had an electric train set that I was obsessed with. I could watch it go around my room for hours and not get tired. The train cars had doors, whistles and lights. I was always curious if there were tiny people inside.

my red wagon, my stuffed tiger "Buttons" which I still have, and anything I could steer...

We were so poor I had to play with cotton reels and cardboard boxes. ;)

think a lot of guys on here are not coming clean about their Barbie dolls:p I had a lot of toys but, when I was really little my Teddy Bear was my fav toy and I still have it:luv2:

I can't think of a favorite. I still have an early 60's Barbie head with half it's hair..and a Honey West doll head...some bits and pieces from GI Joe and Vacuform. It was a long time ago now that I was a kid.

Oh, wait, I remember a suit of armor statuette that when you flipped it's visor was a cigaret lighter and was mounted on a pedastal with a musicbox mechanism that played "Always" that I couldn't keep my hands off. I think it's buried around here somewhere, minus the visor. And I remember getting my fanny spanked for playing with a fiddle playing angel statuette that was one of a pair. I broke a wing off. I still have those too.

I just remembered the name of another old building block toy we used to have: Skyline. The vertical supports were plastic squares with vertical slots on each face. A protruding 'X' at the top would slot into the bottom of next block. Walls and windows slid into the vertical supports. Plastic sheets (floors) Clipped into the 'X' between blocks. Other varying shapes made for many hours of unlimited play.

I can remember very vividly being giving my first Chemistry set for my 12th birthday.

Goodness, i was like a major name in the world of academia, for my personal formula for stink-bombs.

Yes, most certainly in the top three of my favourite childhood toys.

The other two were a Mecanno set and my grandmothers Stief bear, which i still have, button and all...

I remember having a Barney bear and this other teddy bear. Those are the two earliest toys I remember. Both had tear and stuffing coming out of them so my parents told me to throw them away. It was a sad day.

Nice thread. I had many toys... hard to choose one
I also always wanted a giant teddy bear but it was too expensive.

I was sleeping with this peluche when I was younger, his name is Box (don't ask me why I called him that) and he is one of the few survivors among my childhood toys, I'm very fond of him:

Probably a small red race car, also a stuffed toy dog named Scotty.
