Not so weird! When I was a teenager, I lived on my dad's farm and he used to raise pigs for meat. My step-mom liked slab bacon so we'd always get it that way. Didn't take me long to discover that having a slice, cut about 1/4 inch thick and *quickly* pan-seared - just enough to crisp the outside, while leaving the inside soft was heaven.
Trichinosis aside, pork is one of the tastiest uncooked meats there is, esp. so if you raise the animals yourself and they're not given industrial feed.
My current fave non-snack snack is apples and peanut butter.
