Here's an article about 10 people remembering their first experience in a gay bar. One of them starts

I was 21. My gay flatmate Daniel took me to Legends on K' Road one warm night in summer 1999. He was very sweet to drag me along, I needed lots of encouragement as I was shy.

I didn't want to go in - it was very busy and hot. Standing room only. I followed Dan around as we slowly struggled our way to the bar and he ordered drinks for us. A guy must have been looking at me because suddenly Dan leaned over and said softy "that guy wants to hit on you, do you like him?"

Petrified, I made eye contact with the guy - who was probably very handsome - and then said to Dan: "no, I'll just stick with you please."

I'm not sure I can remember my first gay bar experience. I think I was looking for Sodom and Gomorrah and instead there were just a bunch of guys sitting around with drinks.

Gay bars in NZ please. I've been to gay bars in nz and even a veteran like me was scared. The caliber of people there were just bottom of the barrel.

it was about 1999+/-. I was still married and by myself. but what better way to meet up with a gay guy but in a gay bar.

I looked around to see what was going on and it seemed like a regular bar except it was 95% guys and 5% girls.

My wedding band drew some attention and it was like a ice breaker. I noticed that guys went to the head in twos, several guys would go to the mens room together stayed there for a while and then come out and two more would go in and so on. I went up to what hit me as a guy that knows. I asked him what was the protical was and he brought me into the mens room and asked to see my cock. he stroked it and wipped his out and I stroked his. that was about it.

aside from that night each night after was like a lot of talking and explaining the ring.

It was a good experience. I still go to the 47 Central today and its about the same.

Went with a few friends from school. I was around 19 or 20. Anyway, some guy walked past me and patted me on the ass and told me "it was going to be ok", guess I looked nervous, lol. Didn't go to another one for at least 5 years.

A gay bar in a little and conservative town in Spain:
We were only a couple, the waiter, my friend and me. The music was a horrible selection of some spanish disco musicians, and the drinks were very expensive. I drank a beer and never came back.
A little after it closed. I'm sorry but I'm not going to pay the double of normal prices and listen to a music that I hate only becouse I'm gay.

My hometown was so small... we only had 1 1/2 gay bars. One was all gay, the other had a gay side and a straight side. I swear.

This was just before Stonewall, and kissing another guy was taboo. If the bartender saw two guys doing it, he'd give them a dirty look till they stopped.

But I never had much luck cruising at bars, it wasn't an environment where I felt comfortable, since otherwise I don't drink that often.
