I don't want to dis Madonna here (or Cher or Christina or...). I respect what they do. But let's face it, when a huge portion of your fans are gay men, you're not going to bite the hand that feeds you. When someone comes from a less gay-friendly area, isn't gay, but STILL has the courage to say, "Gays are OK in my book"...THAT's when I really notice.

Henry Rollins, who has fought homophobia (and ignorance in all its forms) pretty much since day one. Not easy to do in a hardcore/punk band.

Minor Threat. Ditto. Not only were they anti-racists and anti-homophobic, they even swore off drinking. The "Straight Edge" kids of today sort of warped this band's basic ideals, but I don't think you can blame MT for that.

Yeah, Dolly Parton's had a gay following for some time, but the bulk of her audience has been country music fans - not exactly a gay-friendly lot. I'm sure she could've been an even larger presence in the country scene had she turned her back on the gay fans...but that's something she never did.
