Your idea of a good dinner

A good dinner is when you break bread with someone you love. I'm content with a seafood meal at a country club, fish and chips at a pub or pot roast at home as long as I am with friends and family.

Now I'm thinking pork chops.

I enjoy going out to eat at all kinds of restaurants, but for me the perfect meal can only be had at home (or at someone's home). You can taste the love in a home-cooked meal. I like simple but well-seasoned food, but I'm a slow cook and I love cooking all day on my days off. I had a really fun dinner party over the weekend, and this was the menu:

Baked filets of fish with a little dill and lemon
A simple green salad with scallions and carrots and a French vinaigrette
Home-made bread
Some buttered vegetables baked in oven with herbs
Mashed potatoes (with sour cream & rosemary butter)
A custard for dessert with a raspberry coulis

The perfect meal is family-style, where all the dishes are brought to the table and you pass and serve. Wine or cocktails are served, good music is played, and the guests are all comfortable with each other and having fun, and no one is dieting.

Then afterwards you leave the dishes til the morning, and continue drinking and listening to music and being merry with your loved ones. Maybe have a fire in the fireplace.

i agree. give me some good friends or my lover (or both), some wine, good times and laughter, and i can enjoy anything. the actual dinner takes a far second place to the company.

Those pictures make me hungry!! I have a homemade lasagna in the oven right now. That and a simple tossed salad with some real Syrian bread is calling me!!

my idea of a good dinner? beef fajitas i've grilled over mesquite. tortillas warmed over the grill. mom's arroz, frijoles and potato salad. my brother's pissed off pico de gallo. perfect.

My favorite meal is probably steak (med. rare) and potatoes, with anything else for vegetables.

...BBQ is delicious though, and so are hot, spicy foods.

The PICO de GALLO in Californicatia is usually a White Zinfandel or a Hearty Burgundy...OHHHHH

....I didn't know there was another kind of Gallo.....I'm bi-sexual not bi-lingual for hells sake.
