  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

your name and address are on the internet

There's only one of me in the entire USA.

And it nailed all the info about me precisely.

Wow that sucks big time. I quickly found myself with the old state I lived in 2.5 years ago.

They have my old Florida address and phone number before I moved.

:mad::cry::grrr:

Your name and address and phone book have always been there in the (yellow) white pages, unless you are unlisted maybe. But this shit with age, and relatives and other info really sucks. I have to remove two listings for me and also my parents.

do they charge to have your name removed?

No I had my information removed but it said that I was married to my mother and that I was 58 years old. All it takes is an email and the links you provide they will remove it from their site.

wow what a cool website i was looking up people home prices on zillow!

Hmmm...let's see this again (I checked a couple of months ago)...

Nope, same wildly inaccurate information.

The value of the house dropped from $1,000,000 to a unlikely $172,000. (The house next door hasn't sold for 4 years and it is listed at $23K.)

I'm married with one kid. My partner lives in the same house, he's unmarried but living with his middle name, so that's a total of 5 of us in the house. (This is somewhat true if you count the ghosts.)

And the house has been in the family for 15 years (the real number is 140).

I'm not worried. :D

It has my college dorm address from five years ago, where I apparently am an only child (not true) living with two parents (never true) and make $319k a year (I'll take it).

:rotflmao:

I did my Mom just for fun.

Apparently, she's living with her parents in a $500,000 house thats built in the middle of a highway and invisible.

I'm sure she will be pleasantly surprised she makes $132K a year.

(Hey Mom...wanna borrow me some cash???)

Well it helped me remember that I have a bebo account I haven't used since 2007... I don't remember the password so I cannot delete it.

It has nothing in it, just a REALLY old picture from November 2006.

You can't remove your name - I've tried listing the URL provided and get the message "No URL listed"

http://www.spokeo.com/

ATTN ALL!!! There's a site called www.spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book w/personal information such as pics you've posted on FB, your approx credit score, home value, income age, family members, even cc #'s. Remove yourself by searching your name, find your page, copy the URL and go to the bottom of the home page and click on the Privacy link to remove yourself.
Looks like someone just got a chain letter in his mailbox

Spokeo isn't new and not the only "people search engine".

If its not with your permission, is it not illegal?
only in America
No. There are online phone books of every country. If you allow the company to be listed with your name, phone number and address online, then it is publicly accessible information. If you don't want to be listed on Spokeo, you need to delete your information elsewhere first.

If people can't handle their privacy in Facebook, all that information will be public too. Of course there's the thing about the U.S. of A. which publishes any criminal/other records online and having the worst privacy/data protection laws in the whole world.
