Youtube (and other video players) popping noises

Hello,

I recently had to do a system restore on my computer and have been have problem with Youtube and other video players since then. They load fine and at the same rate, but they make a popping/cracking sound when playing. I looked at the CPU when I am playing them and basically it jumps way up when I'm trying to watch something and do anything else, even just scrolling up and down another loaded webpage. Once the entire video is loaded, it still does this.

I reinstalled the newest Flash player and am still having the problem. Tried using other browsers (like Google Chrome) and still have the problem.

I did a search on Google but couldn't find what it could be. Any ideas?

Through the Control Panel go into the Sound Applet and figure out which Sound Card you've got.

With that information go to the Sound Card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers.

Ensure you get the proper drivers for your operating system.

If you're running Windows 7; do keep in mind that you may be running either 32bit or 64bit Windows. This info applies to which drivers you download.

To find the 'bit' level of your Windows; right-click on 'My Computer' and choose Properties.
 
I've updated my drivers and the Control Panel says they all are working properly yet I'm still having the issue with Youtube videos and other devices. Any ideas?

It's across several browsers... IE and Firefox use their respective Adobe provided Flash; Chrome has it included...

You've done the driver update.

What Operating System?
What bit width? (32 or 64)
On-board sound or a separate sound card?
Manufacturer of sound card?

Is the issue only with embedded (flash or flash-like) players?
Or, with any audio/video player?
 
My Operating System is Windows XP, 64 bit, on board soundcard (it's a Compaq) desktop and it seems to be just Flash or Flash like players. I can listen to stuff on Windows Media Player for example without any problems.

The thing that really bugs me is it was working fine last week. It was only when I did a System Restore that this started happening. I think I must have lost something then. But I can't figure out what since I've updated everything since then. And Youtube videos have no problem loading and playing the actual video, it's just the audio.

Unless I really didn't re-stall the sound drivers right... The Soundcard looks like it is a Realtek AC 97 Audio. I've also got some sound cards such as Unimodem Half Duplex Audio Device, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Devices, Legacy Video Capture Devices, and Video Codecs and they all say the are properly installed and running correctly.

I've looked about a bit more, and this procedure might solve you issue.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click to highlight the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of flakey problems.

If that doesn't solve the issue I'd suggest uninstalling all versions of Flash. Rebooting, and reinstalling flash.
