YOWZA 75,000 people came out to see Obama!

75,000 people

yikes

little strange dontcha think?

little jim jones ish?

the adoration?

is he a rock star? an entertainer?

or a candidate for pres of the u.s?

I knew this was coming. It's one of the more interesting spin tactics of the anti-Obama crowd. And it works. Attack the front-runner by pretending that popularity is a bad thing. If Obama were no longer the front-runner, watch how quickly popularity becomes a good thing.

Reminds me of the fanboy arguments I had over music in high school. "Pink Floyd is better than Journey because Journey is too commercial. The Smiths are cool because they don't get radio play. Popular = bad". It works because it appeals to that adolescant desire to be cool by bucking popular trends.

Obama is popular for a reason. Why denigrate all of the presidential qualities that have made him so admirable to so many? Are we so numbed and bruised by Bush's unpopularity that we prefer an unpopular president? Is it because we feel we don't deserve leaders who move us anymore? That there was a time and blace for the JFKs, the RFKs, the MLKs, but anyone who garners the same attention now is doing something wrong?

LOL! This is so true. And, frankly, what could be more elitist than disliking something because it's popular?

It reminds me of the claim that Obama came off as elitist because he talked about the price of arugula to Iowans. Please. The real elitism there is the assumption that Iowans wouldn't know or care about arugula.
