It's a few months old but there have been many questions about the kings ransom Mitt Romney has. His net worth is over an estimated $250,000,000 with an a IRA account of another $100,000,000. He claims he has no idea how much his vast fortune is but he lives better than 99.999% of the people on earth do.

If the economy is so terrible under President Obama, how did this character made $43 million in the past 2 years? That doesn't sound so bad to me.

Mitt Romney has been given everything and now he wants to be President. He doesn't deserve it.

Ewww...he owns a home in Detroit? So, I guess he's paying taxes in six states on each of them? Didn't the current occupant of the White House, or his dim witted side kick, suggest that paying more taxes is somehow patriotic? :lol:
 
If he's paying taxes he's paying a much less percentage than the average American.
 
I've seen his place in Wolfeboro (so many "journalists" suck at spelling) from the lake. I used to go to the area a ton because I went to overnight summer camp in that town.

Again, Mitt's problem isn't that he has money: it is that he shows no grace for those that don't have it.
 
I don't think you can be a Mormon without making money your life's number one objective. They don't even agree to having the nineteen kids until they have the house big enough to room them all.

It seems a major element in their belief system - to be major money-makers for self and church.

Because as we all know, money makes the Heavens go'round.

Its the power source of many churches (money is). And its clearly what most Mormons focus on all of the time.

Big business is good for the soul according to them.

Why? No one knows. I mean, you ain't taking it with you.

But then, who knows. Maybe Mormons think they will.

Its the ancient Egyptian in them, perhaps.

I do though sense that the list of Romney's homes is not viewed by Mormons as anything bad. Its a badge of honor in fact and testimony that he's doing everything "right".

Like profits from Marie Osmond dolls on QVC and all of that.

It is patriotic especially considering that people like Romney avoid taxes by having offshore accounts (more like PO Boxes) in the Cayman Islands.

What a person does with money is a significant indicator of what they will do with other things. If the way he handles his money shows he regards most people as lesser and not worthy of much respect, one may reasonably think that the way he handles the country will be much the same.

Let's not prejudge here. The house isn't in Detroit proper. It's in Bloomfield Hills. I figure if its good enough for the Fords, it should be good enough for the Romneys'. Or not.

The last time I visited the Great Southwest, I ran across a Mormon church that shared the same property
with a bank. Why am I not surprised? :mrgreen:

Property taxes are the great equalizer. They're generally predicated on the value of the property, not your income. Bigger house, bigger taxes. And think of all the people he's employing to care for these places! He's redoing the house in LaJolla. How many construction workers will he employ to get that job done? He'll be buying construction materials from local suppliers, right? How much more will he pay in taxes when the job's done?

It's just another example of a rich man creating jobs. It's the much derided "Trickle Down" economics actually working, isn't it? And the best part, is that he's using his own money to stimulate the economy, not ours!
 
How many homes does Kerry have? How many did Ted Kennedy have? Jack? Bobby?

Well, that about sums up the value of "Trickle Down" economics: it works when the rich bloody well feel like trickling something down -- when they decide that the masses can be called on to act like servants.

And where does the money that "trickles down" come from? It gets to the wealthy because of the institutional trickle-up economy built by mostly Republicans.

Slightly off-topic (I apologize in advance) but all this talk about Romney's money and houses reminds me of a cute moment in the (otherwise miserable) musical remake of THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940) called HIGH SOCIETY (1956) with music and lyrics by Cole Porter.

Celeste Holm died on Sunday at the age of 95 so maybe that's why I was thinking of it. Anyway, a fun diversion:

Wow remember how Kerry was hounded relentlessly by the Republicans over his estate, or his Wife's fortunes? It was used against him non-stop with the claim he was out of touch with regular Americans. How soon they want to forget when the venom of their own old tricks are thrown back at them as they should be.

I think your reason is actually just a symptom of the same thing the previous reason comes from: Mitt doesn't give a shit about anyone who isn't wealthy. So he gets richer by treating people like pawns, he continues to treat people like pawns, and as president we can expect no different.

Honestly, this shouldn't be an issue. He's free to spend his money anyway he wants and buy as many houses as he wants. Jay Leno has an assload of vintage cars and no one makes a big deal out of it. Nitpicking about this just gives more ammo to the stupid "you're just jealous that he's rich" argument. There's so many other actual valid reasons to dislike Romney, anyway.
