Unfortunately, I think you're going to see a lot more of this in the months ahead. Please be sure to give us your opinion of the lunch! I don't live in CA, and haven't followed the issue all that close but this article intrigued me.

The Vote Yes side threatened the businesses (owners) which donated to Vote No. I think it was, "either give us more money than you gave them or we'll boycott you, " something like that. They also threatened businesses which had not donated to either side. I'm surprised she didn't use that as her fall back reason. She could've played the total victim who was afraid of falling victim to extortion. So, I don't think this is damage control for her per se. I think it's more of a strategic move by the nay sayers. More of, "those sore losing, rowdy, gays are trying to shut our good ole businesses down." Of course, I'm only speculating. What do y'all think?

I like her little advertisement in the middle.

I also want to thank the LDS church (aka the Mormons) for taking the hit on this one. Interestingly enough, the Catholics have been able to hide in the background while they take the brunt of the heat.

Sorry don't buy any of it "poor little me, I know not what I do..":-({|=

She is a functioning adult, part of a business that serves not only straight patrons but also gay patrons.

She has them as friends family and employees yet thought it was wise to donate to this ignorant driven campaign...

She should loose the position and or the business.

Sorry this may be a hard tact for a lot of you here, but I have grown tired and weary of always tuning the other cheek while these sheeple run to the polls to vote what they are told to vote on.

There should be consequences for not thinking for yourself and allowing things like this to happen.

I have been sick at heart that anyone has been offended by me. I have family, friends, employees from the gay community who are treasured people in my life.

PLEASE, then you should have thought twice before sending in you 100$ donation to push this through.

If these people are so treasured to you why would you send money to help stomp on them further.

Get a grip, you cannot profess for love and respect to said people with out reached hand while the other is poised to plunged a dagger in their back.

sorry, she knew full well what she was donating to. If she's like so many others that it was the will of the people blah blah guess what lady. It's also free will to pick what businesses to patronize.

Though I don't like the end result (bystanders out of work,) the sooner we send the "don't fuck with us" message, the better.

It's non-violent, so I say go for it.

The only thing people seem to understand is money.

And when their 75-year old place goes under, will the church be there to help them? We will see just how benevolent LDS are.

I would not go, why do you want a portion of your money, all be it very small, going to anti gay causes. I am sure there are loads of other gay friendly restaurants around, not actively supporting anti gay causes.

If she goes out of business good, its a hundred less dollars next time.

Ditto to all of the above.

It's time we stop putting the other cheek.

i'm sorry, but the woman is an adult more than capable of deciding on who or where she sends her money. as an adult she chose to donate money to the lds who in turn used it against us as a whole. as i've said before, my sympathy has grown thin.

Agreed...check the donation list and start supporting businesses in the area that supported the No Vote.

Let the straight community carry this herd of sheep. 1/4 to 1/3 gay patronage on any given night...jeeze...that would really be a bite in the ass of the bottom line.

i think now as the straight community is beginning to see a broadening movement against their participation we are going to see more of this 'back peddling.'

If I were a long time customer and enjoyed the food here would be too bad.
They wouldn't get any of my business, I'm lost as their customer.
I bet if she over paid someone a $100.00 she would know what she did and ask for it back.
But its beside the point.
Hopefully she will have enough customers that were not slighted to continue but its not my affair.

"I'm sorry... I'm a brainless automaton and I can't think for myself."

Don't cut it.

I just called and cancelled our reservations (table for 12.. gay bike night in a week) and told them that we've taken their restaurant off the list of regular meeting places. I got a very solemn "I understand" from the person on the phone.

Sorry, but she has her right to do what she wants and I have the right to not give her my business. Those gay waiters can find work elsewhere.. it's LA.

:=D::=D::=D::=D:

I hope you exposed the reasons for doing that.

And to all the nay sayers, this is not about revenge and being petty. This is about giving ourselves the respect others won't give us.

QFFT

Honestly, while I don't think that $100 is really not worth the lost of a family business, I have trouble to have any empathy with her, and either way I guess that any damage will at least to teach her a lesson.

LOL she seemed frail and breathless, oh poor you...:-({|=

She is getting what she deserves. No amount of money will erase the one LARGE error in judgment she has made.

Maybe it will force these half wits to re-evaluate their stance and placement in their oh so dearly held Churches.

I like this sentiment...
...He said that there comes a time when you have to decide whether to hold onto one particular doctrine of your church or whether you will refuse to harm those you know and love.

It means GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND STAND UP TO THE LEADERS OF YOUR CHURCHES. It is time to start thinking for yourself and stop being led by the nose.

Do I have empathy for this poor frail woman and her business... NOPE. If those she employs loose their job they have no one to blame but her.

I am tired of hearing how they are being attacked for their beliefs when I have yet to vote on anything that strips them of any fucking rights.

:-({|=Here's the world smallest violin playing "cry you a fucking river...

Thanks for the update Matthew.

This is in LA. There are literally thousands and thousands of mexican restaurants that would love to have our business, some of them are even gay owned. For example, I think that La Nueva Posada Mexican Restaurant in Pasadena is.

I can't wait until La Huasteca opens up again in Pasadena. There is one in Lynwood but I never to to that part of LA because...well...it is not exactly a very nice area of LA. They have the finest mexican food that I have ever had. http://www.lahuasteca.com/

Campos del Campos can be fun. I went there one time and saw a silly play in the basement.

Take her down. If she couldn't see what damage she had caused to her patrons and employees, then she doesn't deserve to have either of them.

@ BlueLantern - what is QFFT?

It's not how much, it's that she did it at all.

I won't give money to someone who thinks I'm a second class citizen.

And I fully support that. What I actually meant is that $100 or even voting Yes on 8 is not something that make me want to have her life destroyed.

Of course this doesn't mean that I don't want her to get the bitter taste of punishment for what she did.

Unfortunately, this woman is little more than a convenient scapegoat for a lot of sad and angry people. I'm not saying you shouldn't boycott her restaurant, or that I feel sympathy for her because I don't, but a lot of business owners supported Prop 8, so how about saving some of the vindictive backlash for them?

I guess this is pretty much why I am posted that we shouldn't destroy her.

At some level she is a victim, a guilty victim though.

My take, is that the church is the real responsability, but it would hard to take them down and unfortunnaly going for the legs and arms might be the most sucessfull tatic.
