Also once it was known how fast RMS Titanic was sinking those life boats should have been over loaded on those smooth glassy waters that calm night. None should have been put down half full or even at capacity. The choice was obvious. The mistakes by the crew tragic.

It is amazingly unfortunate that we cannot learn from our lessons. Think of the most recent international headline cruise ship sinking. All of the survivors report mass chaos and poor communication by the crew.

No one is ever prepared fully for random occurrence. Chaos ultimately ensues. Failing to prepare is choosing to fail.

As for the steerage passengers and their unequal amount of loss? Ships are incredibly complex to find your way in and around. Water tight doors that fell most likely altered the normal routes people took and that means finding new ways to the deck. The crew may not have have some dark desire to not help them but were more than likely overwhelmed by the situation.

It did cause the life boat rules on all sea going vessels to be modified. For every lessons mankind learns must be in blood.

The tragedy of The Titanic brought about a great deal of engineering and safety regulations but the Concordia was sunk by braggadocio.

My post four hours ago was trying to say that the Concordia failed due to human error while the Titanic failed due to a combination of human error and substandard materials.

Ramming the iceberg head on would have been a very irresponsible thing to do. At 45,000 tons and travelling 20.5 knots at the time, the ship's inertia would have caused massive damage to the bow. Although the ship would not likely have sunk…

That TV doco, that I mentioned before, aimed to avoid the emotion and give a scientific reason for the sinking. It said the ship's designers were confident of the Titanic because the arrangement of the bulkheads was based on what they learned from the SS Arizona whose bow hit an iceberg yet was still able to float and steam on.
