18 year old Prom King wears skirt and crop top to prom

True, so many jealous girls.

Also people assuming he is looking for attention, which I see this a lot when it comes to a topic like this that catches wind with the media. Just because a story like this gets to the media doesn't mean this kids intentions were to seek attention, why do people assume this? This could be something he does regularly, nobody knows him. Brings me to my next point, why are people that don't know him or go to this school have a problem with it? Clearly the students didn't when they voted him Prom King.

At the end of the day he dressed within the schools dress code, so there doesn't seem to be a reason to be upset here. He's a male, who dressed up as a woman and that's all there is to it. It doesn't do any harm to anyone, outside of their own insecurities and sensibilities.

There are always two sides to every rule, every law, every code of conduct, etc. (1) The letter of the law and (2) the spirit of the law.

An example of people who follow the letter of the law but ignore the spirit of the law are certain stalkers who walk right up to the line but never actually crossed it. Another example is people like this kid, who very carefully made sure the dress followed the dress code but still made it look as provocative as possible. That's ignoring the spirit of the dress code.

I could have brought up exhibit A as another example of how a person can follow the JUB CoD and still be as uncivil as one can be. Accusing one a liar without just cause is as bad as it gets. That would be ignoring the spirit of the CoD but is technically allowed here.

I have found that those who hide behind the letter of any code of conduct while ignoring the spirit are morally questionable. It tells me that they are the type of people that would always look for legal ways to push limits.

LMAO@normal prom dress

I'm guessing a couple of you never got to go to your prom.
Or, if you did, it was in the 50s at Mayberry High.

Proms are all about attention. Kids even hire limos and helicopters for the event.

I agree with this 100%.

If the kid really just wanted to be out and proud, he could have dressed in a Tux or a normal prom dress. Why did he have to dress like a prostitute to the prom? It was never about being out and proud for him. Attention whoring by ruining prom for everyone else.

And if he pulls the same stunt at graduation, then he will have ruined such a momentous event for everyone else as well.

I have always hated people who cause a scene.

Considering he was within dress code for the Prom I’m sure he will be fine when he is in his Graduation. I mean, if this outfit is “slutty” to you then damn. I mean he’s only 18 years old, I hope you guys realize that. As said before, you’d expect people would be talking about the acceptance he is getting from his peers and his school, but nope, even the people in the same “community” are chastising him for doing something so harmless.

I’m not saying everyone has to like what he’s wearing, but damn, with the reactions hes getting you’d think he did something actually offense to someone.

At the end of the day no one is stopping anyone on here from living like a regressive cave-man, so please don’t tell other people not to live how they want to live when it doesn’t do any harm to anyone else.

Seriously people need to focus on their own lives instead of telling everyone else how to live.

Except he didn't seem to cause a scene at the prom. He seemed just fine, as did the rest of his classmates. The adults outside of the event seem to be the ones causing a smidgen of a scene. It makes me wonder if any of you have helped shop for a prom dress within the last, oh, fifteen years. There's a lot of variation in dresses which was undoubtably not shown in that news segment. The style and whether it's considered sleazy depends quite a bit on the body shape that's wearing it.

My only critique is the skirt doesn't attach to the top by a strap or two so it doesn't, technically, fit the dress bit of 'prom dress' - but then, he has no tits so that particular style of held-together probably wasn't doable in his price range, regular prom dresses usually having a shelf and all. There's a similar issue in prom dresses for those with a chest too large - you're unlikely to find something in the style you want and instead you're stuck with some stretchy number in black or grey. Which usually aren't the go-go colors for a prom.

...Go-to, not go-go. I mean, you're likely to find a couple numbers in black or grey at any prom, but they're also likely to be worn on particular body types that vibrant color or interesting cut prom dress sizes don't often come in. Unlike a tux, you can't conveniently take in or let out a prom dress in the spots needed - they don't work that way. The sizing specs for prom dresses were incredibly limited last I knew and I highly doubt it's changed much - not going by who was wearing what in the news photos, anyway.

A lot of closed-mindedness from the older crowd who get extra snarky when a younger gay person has the courage they never had and the freedom to express himself as he pleases. We get it. Life was hard so you married a woman and had kids or dated women to blend in and now you look ridiculous going to trendy night clubs at age 43 looking out of place as fuck in your ill-fitting jeans and flannel. Let the young people have their fun, he looked good and it can ONLY be celebrated that we have a school that is taking a positive stance on a male student wearing a dress AND his classmates are embracing him. If you can get over yourselves for a minute that's the sound of a glass ceiling being shattered.
Well said.

He is cute.
I thought so, too.

As long as crap like this passes for empowerment, backlash from society will be earned, as it is not welcome behavior, not just by straights, but by out gays who simply don't share the anarchist bent. Anything goes because you feel like it is an anti-social more, and shouldn't be accepted.

Wow homophobic much? It's funny that you say this is unwelcome when he literally has the entire school's support, in a highly religious region no less.

Funny that a bunch of gay men have more of a problem with his outfit than a bunch of teenagers. Might serve some of you well to take notes on their maturity.

As I explained above, the ones who have the biggest problem with this are the older crowd who are just bitter they weren't as bold when they were younger. Not wanting to touch a vagina with a ten foot pole they took girls to prom cuz that's what was expected and they had a miserable time pretending to be straight, dancing with her while sneaking longing glances at the captain of the football team at the punch table. I'd be jealous and cantankerous too if someone less than half my age had cojones twice as big as mine.

There are pictures of him with both the principal and the assistant principal, both of whom are smiling sincerely. Clearly the dress wasn't provocative enough to displease them, so why are people raising such a stink? All the naughty bits are covered, and I've seen much uglier prom dresses than that.

Corrected for accuracy. I'm glad someone else is pointing out that none of the people who were actually there, including school officials, had a problem with it. Crabs in a barrel girl.

He is defining himself....I applaud him for that.

He is brave. Gender role bias is a nasty animal anyway....more people need to challenge it

Yes, your correction is indeed accurate.

"Raunchy" wasn't my first second third or fourth though when I saw the pics, after all the bitching I thought he was in some mini skirt with slits and holes every where. That is super tame compared to some prom dresses that have gone viral. What needed to be covered up was covered up. He practically looked like a nun compared to a lot of prom dresses I've seen [online, I didn't go to prom I was suspended that day]

Or they are just afraid of negative press and lawsuit.

I will simply agree to disagree here.

Or they are just afraid of negative press and lawsuit.

:rotflmao: You can do better than that Ari. I could make a better "they're just pandering" argument than that. The location alone makes you sound just silly. This is the bible belt, how far will a "My school was mean to me for wearing a prom dress" lawsuit go?

Hopefully you will do more than that. Hopefully you will be provoked to rethink your retrograde and judgmental stance about this......I always find it fascinating that homos who crow about their own right to marry and ability to be out in society keep forgetting that it was the fearless gender bending trailblazers and faggots who made a huge noise who made this all possible.

Your shame for this kid and his school is all about you, not about him or his classmates.
