2011 JUB Meet - Portland, Oregon - August 5-7

Talked to Tony more and it seems that the only night that we might be able to make it is Friday night at Daniel's apartment. So might still be a chance, I guess at this point it might be 60/40 chance of coming on Friday.

cool guys!!

Think budgetarily the chances have gone from 25% yes to 85% yes, know for sure in a week or two.I will get back to you guys and let you know for sure in about two weeks.

Oh wow I hope you get the chance to make it Sausy. :)

I'm anxiously awaiting the news! I really want to see you in August, Saucy!

Sorry to be posting bad news, but unless a miracle happens, I will not be able to come as I hoped.

Long story short, I was going to borrow the 200 from my parents to buy the bus ticket this weekend and then pay them back in 3 weeks when I would have money. But a bill came in that basically ate up all their extra funds and now I have to lend them money once mid/late July comes. The ticket would cost, in 2-3 weeks time, double what it costs right now.

Also, I have to pay to get my parents car tuned up because I now have to take that to the cities for my friend's wedding or else me and my 3 friends will be stuck at the after party. A taxi one way would cost the same as two tank loads of gas in my parents car. Buses don't travel that late either.

Again sorry. If the news turns for the better I will say something, but I doubt it now.

In today's news....

Travel + Leisure ranks Portland # 1 Beer City

by KGW Staff

PORTLAND – A ranking on a popular travel Web site named Portland as the top beer city in the U.S.

The online version of Travel + Leisure narrowed down the list to 35 top beer cities and then its viewers selected Portland as the best of all.

The online viewers said the fact that Portland has 39 breweries had a big impact on their ranking. Voters also liked Portland's "all natural personality."

Denver was ranked No. 2 and Seattle No. 3.

I hope that I can come. First, the plan was a Seattle trip in August, then it was off, then it was pushed back for around New Years, now it may be back on for August. I might be able to come down to Portland for a day, I'm not going to have a car, so I would have to take a train or some kind of mass transit. When my family comes back from D.C. on Friday, I'll probably get a better idea of what the plan is going to be.

tipmyscales86, if you can only make it one day, try for Friday afternoon and evening!

Any of the other days would be great too! Hope to see you!

I've recently sent out a PM to dozens of Oregon and Washington JUB-bers reminding them of the Meet and encouraging them to join the fun.

So far the "response" has been somewhat, shall we say, slow. :-)

Anyway, for any of you thinking about it or sitting on the fence, fire off a PM to me or post in this thread if you've decided to come to the party. It will be a fun weekend, I promise.

Oh! And especially if you're dropping in for the roof party, ice breaker on Friday. We're working on the final menu for that evening's bash and we're getting close to really needing a head count before shopping for the ingredients, etc..

Let's get this party started! (!) (!) (!)

Thanks for the PM noc.

I will not be in town that week/end.

Hope you guys have a blast!

MY FLIGHTS ARE NOW BOOKED!!!

Flying via Continental/United Airlines (yes, they've merged)

Arriving very late Wednesday night the 3rd, leaving Tuesday afternoon the 9th, hooray! I decided I'd better go ahead while it was still more than two weeks away. For curiosity I looked at flights leaving the 1st instead, and they were close to $300 higher, so I guess what I thought I heard years ago about "2 or more weeks in advance" is still true.

I'll have a car part of the time, probably from Thursday night to Sunday night. I'm planning to bring Thenight from Salem for the day Friday, so he can at least be with us part of the meet.

I've also been in touch with someone else who was most likely not going to show up, and he's told me that he might be able to show up after all. I/we can certainly hope!! It's hard to know how much a good time can be had, when one hasn't been to a Meet before.

Ah changed mah trip, mon!

I **CANCELED** the trip, and **REBOOKED** on Southwest.

Though nominally it cost me $9 MORE to do that, I'm probably ahead, and I think I'll like the trip more.

I avoid the $15 charge for a checked bag, so I just jumped ahead a few dollars from that. But this flight leaves from Midway instead of ORD and my guess is that parking will likely cost less. At the very least, I've always hoped that someday I'd fly from Midway, and I'm sure it won't be nearly as much a zoo as O'Hare. It's also somewhat NEARER to the other stuff I'll be doing in Chicago!

The flight times are a little more to my liking, too...and I'll be gone about four hours less. I get into PDX close to midnight Wed. night (NoC/S2S, is there transit to the Red Lion at that hour?), I return to Chicago just after midnight Tuesday night...

Looks like my hotel arrangements are secure, too. I'll see if I can bring a spare sleeping bag which I can leave at your place in case anybody needs to use one over the weekend.

I'll be renting a car PART of my stay, probably starting Thursday afternoon or so, and possibly until like Sunday; I'll be open both to errands to prepare for the Friday fun, and possible needs for getting some JUBbers around if necessary (though I'm only aware of such for Thynight who I'll bring to Portland on Friday morning for the day). Sometimes I've picked up JUBbers who flew into the airport, but I think Portland's transit system has a really good handle on that kind of thing.

WOOHOO!!! (!)

I left Atlanta this morning on my way to PORTLAND!!! ..|

I'll stop in Salt Lake City for a couple of days (to celebrate Pioneers Day) -- and then arrive in Portland by next weekend -- WELL IN TIME for the FESTIVITIES!!! :D

I cannot wait to see you guys!!!

:):):)

I really wanted to go to this but tickets were a bit too pricey and it's just around finals week!

I just wanted to post a website that I almost ALWAYS check out before having time off in Portland...

http://www.travelportland.com/calendar

Just plug in the dates for the meet -- and you can see that there are always HUNDREDS of things to DO!!! ..|

Even Les Mis is in town that weekend!!!

I'm really looking forward to seeing all of you!!!

:):):)

I didn't see anything that would yank me away from the JUB meet (lol), but I'm completely amazed over the listings for things such as multiple farmers markets, etc. Quite an amazing event calendar, even without the film and music events, lectures and speeches, etc. being listed!

Besides the Meet, I look forward to whatever else I'll learn about Portland.

I still haven't heard from Sausy whether he's gonna make it for sure?

I still haven't heard from Sausy whether he's gonna make it for sure?

I haven't either -- but I'm VERY optimistic!!! :D

BOTH opinterph and I have wanted to meet him for YEARS!!!

Lets hope that he is just WAY TOO BUSY on PRICELINE trying to get the BEST deal to post on the thread...

Hey -- what do you guys that are coming in EARLY think about hitting the Mississippi District ( http://www.mississippiave.com/ ) on Thursday afternoon???

Since it ISN'T the weekend -- it SHOULDN'T be PACKED!!!

It is a VERY COOL part of town!!!! ..|
