Björk announces release date for new album 'Biophilia,' unveils a super-expensive 'Ultimate Edition'

It may be about two months away yet, but the four-year wait for Björk's new album now has an increasingly bright light at the end of the tunnel. On Tuesday, the Icelandic art-pop queen announced that "Biophilia" would be released Sep. 27 via Nonesuch/One Little Indian.

Following the re-launch of the album's website last month, the kaleidoscopic, electro dreamscapes of new songs "Crystalline" and "Cosmogony" have whetted fans' appetites. Toying with our quenchless thirst for interactive tablet technology, an app version of the album with mind-bending visual interpretations of the songs is available on iTunes today.

Of course, the ballyhooed return of Björk hasn't come without its share of old-school decadence. Allow us to introduce you to the "Ultimate Edition" of the new album. If you've got the cash, this $800 (!) package is all you need to declare your supreme allegiance to your swan dress-wearing idol. But what could you possibly get for that amount of dough?

Each pricey package includes the album, encased in "black uncoated board wallets" and a lacquered and silkscreened oak-hinged lid case. Then you've got the "Biophilia Manual," a "48-page, full-color, hardbound, cloth-covered and thread-sewn book tipped on lenticular panel to the front cover with a foil-blocked spine and back cover." And don't forget about your new batch of sonic accessories.

Each "Ultimate Edition" holder will get a set of "10 chrome-plated tuning forks, silkscreened on one face in 10 different colors, stamped at the back and presented in a flock tray. Each fork is adjusted to the tone of a Biophilia track, covering a complete octave in a non-conventional scale."

Got all that? If you're still on board, you have only until Aug. 12 to pre-order, so start saving now.

I'm rather excited for the new M83. I'm interested, yet reluctant, for the new Bjork and Wilco albums. I love them both but have been underwhelmed but their past couple albums.

I'm not sure about the order, but my favorites this year are:
Elbow- Build a Rocket Boys!
PJ Harvey- Let England Shake
Radiohead- The King of Limbs
Wild Beasts- Smother
Ponytail- Do Whatever You Want All the Time
Destroyer- Kaputt and Ideas for Songs
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins- Diamond Mines
Pure X- Pleasure
Diego Garcia- Laura
Fujiya and Miyagi- Ventrilloquizzing

I'm giving the new Washed Out a few listens, and the new Wet Hair.
I've discovered I dislike TV on the Radio more and more with each album. I am not fond of the new Bon Iver.
Still haven't heard Skying yet. I've enjoyed previous music from The Horrors.

Indie-pop trio IVY announce All Hours Details, offer Three Track Preview

Indie-pop trio IVY have announced the details for their highly anticipated 5th studio album All Hours [Nettwerk]. The record, due out Sept. 20th, marks a self-proclaimed “rebirth” finding the band more focused on textures and rhythms than the traditional guitar-focused sound that has characterized their previous recording efforts. Singer Dominique Durand describes the writing process for All Hours as an attempt to “go back to some kind of innocence, and also a feeling of energy and excitement”.

IVY, which formed in 1994, had released four critically acclaimed albums by 2006. Originally planning to release another record quickly at that time, the band ended up writing and discarding at least an album’s worth of songs over the next couple of years. Finally the band turned a corner, adapting a new writing style and rejuvenating their love for being involved in the project.

The band is currently offering a three song sampler from “All Hours” on their Soundcloud that shows both the progress and the range of the new record. Second single ”Fascinated” sounds like a lost 80′s synth-pop hit remixed for the present day while “Distant Lights” presents a slow-building shifting soundscape with a relentless, hypnotic beat.

The 11 tracks that make up “All Hours” maintain those unmistakable IVY melodies and hooks, but also present a bold new chapter for the band. The result of which is an album that is sure to please longtime fans as well as capture new ones. The band will also be taking the stage for three dates this September, the dates and ticket info for which can be found below.

Miguel Migs will release third LP in October, entitled Outside the Skyline.

The Californian producer's first full-length, Colourful You, was released on Astralwerks in 2002, and the follow-up, Those Years came five years later on San Francisco based Salted Music, a sub-label of Om Records which Migs, born Michael Steward, co-founded in 2004. His third release, Outside the Skyline, is said to follow in the footsteps of his previous albums in its mix of styles; in this case, early soul, dub, jazz, reggae, funk and Italo disco as well as house. Migs explains his aesthetic by saying, "I take inspiration from everything around me. It's not about trends or what's fashionable, it's about creative expression, quality, emotion and artistic integrity." A number of guest artists feature on the record, including reggae veteran Capleton and Berlin-based producer and singer-songwriter Georg Levin.
