2013 Massachusetts Special Election

I got this in an email just now. From Council for a Livable World. No link available.

Ed Markey wins!

In the Massachusetts Senate primary yesterday, to select a successor to former Senator and now Secretary of State John Kerry, Rep. Ed Markey easily triumphed over Rep. Stephen Lynch 57%-43%.

In the Republican primary, former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez won the nomination.

While Markey is the favorite in the special general election to be held June 25, over-confidence should be avoided lest we repeat Massachusetts’ special election disaster of 2010 that sent Republican Scott Brown to the Senate.

This victory is yours as much as it’s Ed’s -- Council supporters have contributed over $50,000 toward this special election effort.

^ An old, white guy with no recognizable accomplishments in his 20+ years of political service VERSUS a bilingual immigrant who is a former US Navy Seal and an entrepreneur and isn't afraid to work across party lines. Guess who belongs to each party?

I'll research them both, but Gomez better be really moderate, if I'm going to vote for him.

Indeed..that's my fear. I'm not a fan of our current representative in Congress but the Tea Party nutjob that beat him in 2010 had to go. I'm afraid if Gomez wins,he'll do nothing but be a hinderence on gay rights.

He is probably more liberal than Lynch which says a lot. As I have said, I cannot stomach Markey as a do-nothing politician. He is the poster child for term limits. I think the best joke I have heard so far is: "if Markey gets elected, he will be the third senator from Maryland". I think the more MA residents learn about Markey, especially independents, the more they will loathe him. Considering Markey atm only has a 4-point lead with a 2.5+/-, it's not looking good for him.

However, there is a strong media spin right now pushing for Markey so who knows what will happen.

Let's play...........guess which one is the Republican, and which one is the Democrat??

Gabriel Gomez is a Latino and he's a HOTTIE! :D

I miss GiancarloC. I would have had so much fun with him over this today. :(

By the way, Gabriel Gomez, a Republican, mentions his support for same-sex marriage on his official campaign website.

Under "Marriage":

"I oppose discrimination of any kind. Same sex couples should be free to marry."

Ugh, I am totally gonna abstain from voting at the end of this month. Gomez initially seemed like a nice person till he started drinking some "tea". Markey is the progressive who didn't meet a tax he didn't like. He would tax flatulence as "carbon emissions" if he could. Two shitty candidates and the state of MA is the one that loses. I hope Lynch runs again in 2014 for the seat and Markey retires.

We'll have to wait and see I guess.

That should make it null and void. I'm betting he'll be "moderate" like Scott Brown was in regards to gay marriage, which is not at all.

Gabriel Gomez is fucking hot! I would love to just destroy his right wing ass. I would just wreck that.

Is senility setting in or is the guy just stupid.

... or maybe Biden is advising him.

80 years is too old to be running for the US Senate.

This is why outside money should be banned from elections. Got this in the mail today...

Gotta love those "democratic elite" making fun of people from Mississippi.

Markey pretty much has this wrapped up. If nothing else, the GOP isn't doing a thing to help out Gomez.

Ed Markey wins..race was closer then I thought it would be though.

Well, at least when Markey dies he'll get to lay in state in the Senate chamber.

I think states should enforce residency requirements, people living in one state and running for office in another state makes no sense to me.

Both Parties do this.

Remember the Republicans putting Alan Keyes up against Barack Obama in the 2004 U. S. SENATE race (which Obama won)?

The difference is that Markey is a current US Congressman. Where did Keyes live when he ran for Senate?

A side note: Obama and his machine had bumped off all his competitors both democrat and republican through disclosures of locked divorce agreements and other unethical moves.

I just saw Markey -- he evidently has a young, blond trophy wife too .... things are looking good for him.
