2014 MLB thread

The Yankees are kicking ass!!! I think this year is going to be emotional with Jeter retiring

Definitely enjoy Gumby bringing in the Nats and hopefully others too bringing in their clubs... not just a New York centric thing because this is intended to cover all of MLB.

But I do have make a distressing Yankee reference following a 16-1 thrashing by Tampa Bay as starting pitcher Ivan Nova who was looking as one of the bright Yankee hopes left the game with elbow soreness and will receive an MRI. God, not another Tommy John surgery season ender already!!!!!:(

Bad Ivan Nova news for Yanks as he did suffer a partial tear of the ulnar ligament in his elbow and yes, that generally means Tommy John surgery. Hopefully he comes back by next May or June fully healed and ready to resume his career but it is yet another frustrating season ending elbow injury probably requiring Tommy John surgery but recovery rates especially in recent years just make it an unfortunate setback to a career, not a potentially fatal blow as it use to be.

Yanks did tough have a good result today beating the Rays 5-1 in 12 innings after being tied at 1 after nine winning two of three of this weekend series.

Big Braves fan. High hopes this year.
Pitching has been really good after losing two quality starters for the season in Medlen and Beachy. Mike Minor is still out, too. But the others have been filling in nicely.

Nice to have you here, Blackout.... really rough to lose two starters to elbow tears requiring Tommy John surgery but so far a really good job by the Braves staff certainly considering the circumstances. Now more shocking news as young Marlins ace Jose Fernandez himself is out for the year with an elbow tear requiring Tommy John surgery. What is it with such a rash of these type injuries recently?!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to a Yankees game last Friday. They lost but I can tell you from what I saw, Jeter is not going to be hoisting a trophy up this year.
This is even less of a championship team then what we had last year.

Yeah, Ninja... it looks like Derek stayed one year too long and this club hasn't nearly enough steady pitching or offense to go far. You never know, can't count them out being the Yankees but still they don't look like a club to believe in certainly after the first two months. Robinson Cano is chuckling now, I guarantee you that but still wasn't worth going ten years for. No one really is.

A sad note....Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, 54, has died. One of the great hitters of any generation.

Tony Gwynn was no doubt one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game and one of the nicest as well. Such a shame he was taken far too soon.

Last night Jeter ever plays in Yankee Stadium..hard to believe it's over for my favorite Yankee.

Im with you. Grew up a Yankee fan and my first jersey and poster was of Jeter. I got a couple of jerseys and shirts, all of them are of jeter with only one being rivera. At least he went of with a walk off. Wish they had made the playoffs.

Yes, what a wonderful ride for Derek Jeter and those who have had the pleasure to enjoy his talents. Stayed his entire career with the Yankees and was one of the biggest reasons for so long the Yankees were always in the hunt. Five rings, over a .300 lifetime average, over 3,400 hits and always conducted himself and played like a dedicated professional. He was guarded and private but when so many airheads deemed "celebrities" would give you 24/7/365 of their doings and opinions it's refreshing that he was one to hold on to a strong level of personal privacy and space away from the limelight. I know I'll miss Derek Jeter and was so glad the final memory of his as a Yankee player at the Stadium was a game winning hit.

I'm a Mets fan, not hating on the Yankees but always more drawn to the Mets(which requires in these last few unfortunate years a great deal of patience and a touch of masochism)! However I appreciate the Yankees history and always want to see both New York teams do well. Derek Jeter as a player has been one who always has had my respect and appreciation. Well done Derek and the best on the next chapter of your life!

Dodgers/KC or Dodgers/Angels. Would love to have a freeway series.

nats/orioles would be nice...like the angels though because Mike Trout is a Jersey boy, and he's flat out the most exciting all around young player in the game.

As one can tell with their American League Division Series Games #01 and #02 matchups against Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers are done. Stick a fork in them! They should not be in any more postseasons unless they return and actually win the World Series. They're a failure.

Washington Nationals is behind in their National League Division Series Game #01 against San Francisco Giants. Obviously, nothing has changed with preparing that Washington, D.C. team for the postseason. So much for them being destined for playing in the Fall Classic.

It also wouldn't be surprising if Los Angeles Dodgers, the NL equivalent to the AL Detroit Tigers for having a bloated and top-tiered payroll rank, fucks up with their NLDS matchup against St. Louis Cardinals. Too soon to say with that. But, we'll find out.

Detroit has no bullpen and that has been the case the past four years.

Wow.. AL decided just like that, and the ones going to the LCS won't be the highest payroll clubs. I'm glad...so nice to see Kansas City get this far after 29 years out of the postseason, they and the Orioles were once among the more competitive AL clubs in the days before the supersize contracts. NL still needs time to shake out but good to see at least in the AL we'll be getting a club really worth rooting for when the haves keep flaunting their luxury stadiums, tv deals and megacontracts.

Royals got all the confidence in the world right now. Will be interesting to see how they do against an orioles team that crushed detroit. If KC just needs to pitch like it did against the angels and they will win.
