I'm getting so tired of seeing posts on other boards saying that masks have been shown to be useless....

Facebook is the worst but others are just as bad. Nothing will be done about the disinformation until the site owners and moderators take a courageous stand against this propaganda. I've reported any number of lies, disinformation posts, troll posts, QuackAnon-ers, etc. on FB, but nothing ever happens. They let it all stay there. All of it. When FB says they're fighting disinformation, it's a lie. They are encouraging this disinformation and division when they do nothing to stop it. They WANT it. Follow the money.

The height of stupidity is believing one can fight, let alone overcome, stupidity.

Nobody will accept a "truth" in which they do not already believe.

I'm topping you all at the height of stupidity, and asking you to take his word, if you keep distrusting mine

What I take from that work, and him in general, in relation to the discussion above, is the "realization" that the "liberal" paradigm of the good people only needing all the facts and information to be led to the truth that will automatically enlighten them was totally, naively, absolutely, positively, most decisively W-R-O-N-G.

Although, anyway, the problem here goes beyond bipartisanship of barbarian conservatives vs. enlightened libs: it's both TRUE conservatives and libs against The Masses.

There are people weaing masks, particularly the cheaper ones, in the street, but I think today was the first day I was stared at by most people, especially in the more parochial areas, in the upper part of the city.

You know, people who will not find silly wearing a suit in BCN during the summer, or do some running in the urban ways supporting a heavier traffic... but will find extravagantly suffocating a face mask under such conditions

The latest idiocy on one site is the assertion that the best way to become immune to the disease is to get it, and afterwards be "seventy times as protected as with three vaccines" (I presume they mean three shots of a vaccine". So this guy is recommending to not wear masks!

The lack of any kind of scientific awareness is astounding, and it's from both sides of the political spectrum (though knowing some of the posters' history, they're pretty much nutcases from both ends of the spectrum -- which can make it rather entertaining because while they agree that "Facist Fauci" is misleading us they snipe at each other constantly).

Most of the masks here are on the highly decorative side; I've seen several people whose masks have prints of faces (their own?), and two with images of the virus, a half-dozen targets, lots of animals, quite a few flags, a few university mascots, a batch of movie/comic characters, flowers... the only cheap ones I see these days are handed out by stores to customers who forgot to wear one.

What do you mean "both sides of the political spectrum"? I have not noticed that Democrats or those on the left are anti-vax, anti-mask, or anti Dr. Fauci. How is Dr. Fauci "misleading" us?

There are some idiots who have decided that Fauci was "Trump's" somehow, and say he keeps flip-flopping just like Trump did, that he doesn't know any real science because he's never actually dealt with sick patients.... It's really weird seeing some on the left agreeing with others on the right -- though ripping each other over every little difference.

I need someone to tell me how the "mask mandate" is any more "fascist" than the pledge of allegiance, church-going (remember "church, children and cooking"?) or swear nazis.

Beliefs About The Delta Variant Surge of the Summer of 2021:

More details about why people believe the Summer 2021 surge happened:
Overwhelming majorities of Democrats say people not taking enough precautions like wearing masks and social distancing (89%), and too many people refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine (87%) are major reasons for the current number high number of cases, whereas only about three in ten Republicans say the same. Large shares of Democrats also identify the infectiousness of the Delta variant (75%) and state and local governments being too quick to lift mask mandates and social distancing restrictions (73%) as major reasons why cases are so high, compared to fewer independents and Republicans who say the same. Notably, a majority of Republicans (55%) say immigrants and tourists bringing COVID-19 into the U.S. is a major reason for the high number of cases whereas fewer independents (34%) and Democrats (21%) see this as a major reason.

^ Like saying that crime rates prove that police and prisons are ineffective and worthless and, most important, a waste of public money

It's about time!

This should have been done long ago.

I used to follow Mercola at one time for holistic heath information. But after listening to him for awhile and putting together the sum total of what he was saying, it became apparent he was a nut and I dropped him. That might have been 20+ years ago.

YouTube cracks down on anti-vaccine videos, bans major accounts [NBC]

YouTube announced a total ban Wednesday on vaccine misinformation and the termination of the accounts of several prominent anti-vaccine influencers, including Joseph Mercola and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing “the need to remove egregious harmful content.”

^ Again, it's doing it wrong: for us the point is the content, the information, but for them the point is to speak, no matter what, even against themselves, and feel important, superior, right.

You won't be fighting that darkness by letting it prosper away from the light of the media, rather the contrary: it must be fought, if that's what they want, at least as indefatigably as they appear to be, showing that they are lacking reasons by exposing their lack of reasoning, and cooly let pit themselves against their own pointless tantrum, like you would do with any raging brat... let them have their way... in their own world, because that is where they have always been, even when you thought you were as reasonable and "normal" as yourself.

To make them feel persecuted, oppressed, is not setting them apart, it's precisely the contrary, it's allowing them feel part of your world like a spoilt pest: it's literally feed the troll. That has always been the main difference between democracies and dictatorships: the latter make martyrs, the former produce irrelevant outcasts.

Shutting down the purveyors of disinformation is the right thing. They have been polluting and poisoning the media for far too long, and people are dying because of their lies. Exposing them as frauds has not worked. Countering them with factual, truthful information has not worked. At some point, you have shut down the monster to keep them hurting anyone else.

Again, you will be "shutting down" your own awareness of it, not the crime itself.

It's merely old prudishness from a leftist perspective.
